~"I will return to you my love...", Adrian whispered to me as the sun began to rise. He kissed the tears off my cheeks as I pinned his rosette cockade to his breast pocket. A thundering knock penetrated our silence, the reaper of war had come to take him too... "Wait for me darling..."~"And.... that's it! You are now officially no longer man and wife.", Mr. Turnbill said with a chortle. The stocky lawyer took the papers Jack and I had just signed and put them in his over sized briefcase. A shaky breath escaped me and I stood. I glanced over at Jackson for maybe the last time and turned my back. After months of working all the details out, I was finally free of him. As far as divorces go I got the best deal out of the two of us. I lost the house and one of my cars but other than that I got to keep everything.
No love was lost giving up that house... it had to many memories and it was time I moved on. I stepped out of the lawyer's office and felt a cool breeze blow over me. The tell tale signs of winter had began its decent over the loud city. I closed my eyes and breathed out slowly, letting the fact that my marriage was officially over sink in. I took one step away from the building when a sleek black car whipped into the parking space a few feet from me. Recognizing the car, I gave it a thumbs up with a tired smile.
Ellie sprung from the passenger seat and rushed to my side, enveloping me in a tight embrace. She pulled away from me and held me at an arms length. Her eyes asked of I was okay; I nodded my head in reassurance.
"I'm free, El. I don't ever have to see him again if I don't want to." A low chuckle escaped me. "His girlfriend tried to again to sue me for 'threatening her with a gun'. Of course my lawyer brought up the footage from the house and said it was self defense because I thought it was a thief."
Ellie laughed hearing this. "You would've though Jack would've remembered the security cameras that HE installed just in case of a break in. Guess it was lucky that the door to your room was open or you wouldn't have had that evidence." I just hummed in response and climbed into the back seat of her car.
"Hey Al, how's the team been?", I asked seeing El's over enthusiastic husband. He looked at me through the rear view mirror, his cowlick bouncing as he turned.
"Hey dude! It's been forever since I last saw you! The team is doing great we're getting ready for the Super Bowl so you know how that is.", his laugh echoed around the car. I smiled at his excitement. If there was one thing to love about the guy, it was his contagious optimism. I could already feel the stress of the document signing leave me. I assumed Ellie knew he'd have this effect on me and that's why she brought him along.
Ellie climbed into the car and brushed her long hair to a side and buckled up. I did the same and Al pulled out of the parking lot. Ellie turned to where she was facing me and I could tell she had some good news for me.
"Hey Cece, how do you feel about kids?", she asked with a wide grin. I tilted my head in confusion. That was not what I was expecting, maybe something about a new movie but not that.
"Kids are cute. I like them.", I said slowly with a raised brow, wanting to know where she was going with this. I glance at Alfred through the mirror and he had a Cheshire grin. "Why...?"
"Because I'm pregnant!", she hollered with a wide smile. I laughed and hugged her as best as I could from the back seat.
"My god! Congratulations!", I exclaimed and clapped Al on the shoulder. "You guys are going to be the best parents ever!"
"I know right!", the couple exclaimed in unison. We all dissolved into a fit of laughter. I wiped the moister away from my eyes and smiled at the two.
Alfred looked at me in the mirror his smile growing wider, if even possible. "And El and I agreed that we want you to be the God Mother to our son or daughter.", he said. I gasped and covered my mouth in shock. Tears sprung into my eyes at the news.
