I was twelve when I first saw what happened. I saw government SUV's pull into the military base where my mom worked. She was a Biochemist. She helped change the world, or at least that's what I was told. But anyway, I would climb up a tree to see what happened. I knew all the soldiers on base. They loved Dr. Layman and her notoriously curious daughter. At first, they picked two soldiers out of a lineup of soldiers. I detected a pattern, all the soldiers in the lineup were under 21, and all of them were fresh out of boot camp. All of them were marines. That day, when mom came home, she cried in her room for an hour, and my sister made all of us chicken noodle soup for dinner, then my sister, Starla, helped me get ready for bed and even played music until I fell asleep.

I formed a bond with my sister that day, and soon I showed her the best places to play in the woods, and I even showed her the tree where I watched the soldiers. She told me that spying is wrong and I shouldn't do it ever again. The second time the government, or the men in the black suits, showed up, they took 4 men, with the same characteristics, but then a whole group of women showed up, claiming they were stationed there by the Sector.

By the time I was 15, Starla had moved out and I hadn't heard from her for months. By 16, I was diagnosed with chronic anxiety, and a unique form of depression. They couldn't give me medications, my mom refused, telling the doctors she'd find a damn cure herself, and the very next day she took me onto the base. That day, I was given a master keycard and I was to report on base every morning at 8am. My mom threw herself into this cure. She stopped seeing me as a daughter, and started seeing me more as a lab rat in one of her experiments. She would give me evaluations in the morning, and the rest of the day, I would walk around, with my fake smile, and greet the usual people. At about a month until my seventeenth birthday, the government agents showed up.

Except, they didn't take any soldiers, but they did talk to my mom, and they talked about me. I was on my way in, I went earlier to play with the bomb squad dogs. I keep them happy and the bomb squad guys happy. I would play hide and seek with the dogs on base. I would hide and the bomb squad guys would use the dogs to find me. I used it as an excuse to hide from the world, and the bomb squadron could say it was an exercise. It was the only thing I looked forward to anymore. After I played with the dogs, I went to check in with Mom for my early morning tests, and I saw five government SUV's sitting by Mom's building. I rushed in, not ready for the government to take the only family I have left. I throw my mom's office door open and I see... nothing, they aren't there. I walk towards the main lab and i see her there, she's facing me and she sees me immediately, but she gives me a look telling me to get away. Then, one of the 4 men standing with their backs to me, turns and sees me through the glass and smiles warmly, but it doesn't feel warm when his eyes lock onto mine, his eyes shift from a pale grey to an electric blue, and back to grey. Then he turns to face my mother, except his suit jacket shifts, and I see a gun. I throw myself into full panic, and he pulls it from the holster, and I hear my mother scream, "FINE!" he freezes, "You can have her, but give me a month and a half. I'll have her issues cured then. After that, she's yours." My mom cried out, and so did I.

I had to assume she meant me. I was the only "her" my mom knew with "issues". My own mother just gave me away to the freaking government to save her own skin! I pounded my fists against the glass, and one of the men in suits came out of the lab, and walked towards me. He gave me a warm smile, but I glared daggers. He stood tall, at least six feet tall, and me, at 5'3, I barely reached his chest. He walked towards me and as soon as he was close enough, I acted on impulse. I looked up at him, and threw my palm up, hoping my arms were long enough to reach my target. I would've broken his nose, had he not grabbed my wrist and stopped me. His reaction time was almost inhuman. I looked up at him, shocked. He looked down at me, amused. I actually noticed his features now. He stood at six foot tall, i think. He had high cheekbones and a strong jaw line, with the slightest bit of stubble. He also had the most gorgeous blue eyes that I've ever seen. They were dark, and looked like they held some dark secrets. They had a depth, and they drew me in. I was mesmerized by his eyes. After a moment, I think, he spoke. "Jax or Jaxon, nice to meet you," he said, and his voice was very deep, and husky. And very attractive. He gave off the 'Bad-Boy-but-internal-softie' vibe.
