Beauty and the Beast: Inner Beauty

"Hey look!" Ben shouted down the hall. "It's miss bat. Blindy!" The surrounding crowd laughed.

                Idiot

Hi, I am Chance, and I am a dog. I help Cara see. She is blind, and many people tease her about it. I hate Ben, and all those people with him. Cara doesn't really care about what others think. After years of teasing you learn to block it out. And besides, Cara can ride a horse at top speed, like a pro!

"My ears only accept what is true and beautiful." Cara replied coldly.

"Ha, ha! I bet her beautiful bat ears help her see by echo location too! Bat!" Ben tried to break through the thick wall that had formed over Cara's heart. He didn't even chip it.

Cara has black hair, and she is beautiful. She wasn't born blind, She fell off her horse. She still rides that horse. Me and Cara Walked to the bus, where it would drop us off at our ranch just outside the city. I am not sure as to what province we live in. WE live in Canada. And it's hot in the summer, it also snows. And there is ice. That is how the horse fell. I used to be Cara's pet, but now I am her guide. I am a good dog, I don't bark or bite. Unless someone tries to physically hurt Cara.

Later we sit in Cara's room.

"I feel bad for all those people without water." Cara mulled as she drank from her green Nike water bottle. "Chance, can you get money.

I hurried over to her bed, and grasped the worn bag and brought it back to Cara. She knew how to read braille. She had learned when she was 7. She was 5 when the accident happened. Cara is now 14, and I am 10.

"500 dollars!" Cara had finished counting.

We went down to the kitchen, and set the bag on the table.

"Mom!" Cara called, "Can you please give this money to the fund for wells in Africa!"

Cara always did things like this. She would save up, and give away. I think Cara is beautiful, inside, and out. She is compassionate, loving, caring, and never gives up. That is what true beauty is!
