I sat down at the breakfast table, everyone was there, waiting for the boy. I looked at is loving family, his mother, Bailey, and his father. Our family had been perfect, flawless.
"Gosh boy, you look starving." Sarah said, smiling softly at me.
"Yes m'am." I said politely, smiling back as she set down his breakfast, my favorite, Pancakes with syrup.
"I know how you like my pancakes, boy" Sarah said
"Thank you, Sarah, what would I do without you." He smiled, kissing her cheek.
We ate peacefully, talking about our life. How could it get any better? The people were so very kind to me, the town was absolutely beautiful, especially on a day like today. The sky was clear and the sun was shining, it was truly astonishing.
I heard a carriage pulling up outside, and a knocking at the door. Sarah went over to open the door, greeting the man. He was dressed up very nicely, very expensive clothing that must of cost more than our house, he was holding a neatly rolled up paper which gave me painful thoughts. The man was asking for my father, I watched him stand, and walk over to the man. I heard whispers and he showed him the paper. In all my life I've never seen the man shocked so much before, even when I tripped in the garden and cut open my knee badly. My father nodded and went upstairs and came back down packed up.
"Father, where are you going?" Bailey had asked.
"Places, the town needs me." He responded, putting on his jacket and hat.
"How long will you be gone?" I asked, biting my lip.
"I don't know, Harry. But do not worry, I will be fine. Anne, watch the kids, please." My father said, walking over to place a gentle kiss on her cheek.
"Love, if I must ask, where are you going?" She said, worried as ever.
My father whispered something in his ear, I tried to listen, but I did not ha good hearing, she gasped and looked at him.
"Dear god, please be safe."
"I will Anne, just make sure the kids are too."
I went to ask what was happening but the man waiting coughed, signaling they had to go, now. My father waved and said his goodbyes to all, before taking off with the man in the carriage. I was frustrated to know what was going on. "NO!" I screamed, running out the door, only to see the carriage that took my father disappearing into the woods. I went to run after it when my brother held me back.
"PAPA!" I yelled through my salty tears, "PAPA COME BACK! PLEASE PLEASE COME BACK!" I screamed, leading into a fit of sobs.
"My dear Harry, he will be back, soon. Please don't fret." She said, wiping my tear stained cheeks with her thumbs "Calm down, please stop crying." She whispered. Honestly I couldn't stop, I was sniffing, trying to catch my breath, but to no avail. Mama started to sing an old song, her smooth gentle voice put me in a trance, and I stopped crying. "He will be back, Harry." She whispered, kissing my wet cheek.
"He will be back" I whispered back.
Even though, it has been four years, I will not give up, he will come back.
