At midnight they walked
At midnight they talked
She smiled and laughed
He nodded and basked
Her eyes glimmered in the light of the moon
"Not even the stars shine as bright as you"
They sat in the sand and looked at the sky
"Why can't we be together, why oh why"
"Because my dear, fate won't let"
"Who cares about fate?! I won't regret"
She cried in his arms, on his shoulder, in his hands
He cried in her lap, on her shoulder, in her hair
They both parted ways, continued their lives
They both still remember the midnight tears they cried
