When Love Is Denied

Chapter~1

"I-I think I...well I think I love ...you..."

Sasuke abruptly stopped walking. He turned slowly around to face the blonde shinobi behind him. The same blonde who was looking at the ground with his hand over his mouth and a bright shade of cherry-red over his face.

"You what?"

Naruto bit his lip.

"I love you. More than anything in the world. So please, don't leave me here. I wouldn't be able to live here without...you."

The look of shock was frozen on his face. By the time Naruto looked up however, it wasn't shock that he saw, but anger.

"Stupid STUPID dobe! You can't love ME! You just can't. Choose someone else!"

"What? you can't CHOOSE who you love. You just love them."

Sasuke close his eyes tightly. Of couse Naruto was right. You couldn't choose who you loved. He had used that same excuse many times to permit himself to feel that way about the dobe. That same excuse which he now heard coming from Narutos mouth. As he had imagined so many times before. As he had wanted. So very much.

But no matter how much he had longed to hear those words from him, no matter how much Sasuke loved the blonde fox, they could never be together. He would never forgive himself if Orochimaru found out about the way he felt. If Orochimaru used those feelings and hurt the blonde....NO! That would never happen. He wouldn't allow it.

"S-Sasuke..?"

"Go home Naruto. Go home and forget I ever exsisted."

"B-but I--"

He opened his eyes and wore a face of fury. The hurt in Naruto's eyes  mirrored the pain he felt inside. But this hade to be done. Quicker than a humans eyes could see, Sasuke's fist lashed out and struck Naruto in the side of the face. The blonde ninja fell backwards and landed on the cold, hard ground beneath him. A bruise was already forming on his cheek.

"GO HOME NARUTO!"

With that last angry scream, Sasuke ran off into the inky blackness that was the night.

Naruto sat on the ground processing what had gone on between them. He could not control the emotions that were racing around his heart. Sasuke was gone, he was within arms reach of Naruto and now he was gone. The tears flew down is cheeks. It wasn't fair. This always happened to him. Everyone he had ever cared about had rejected him.

Well he wasn't going to go through it again. He didn't want to go through all that pain any more. He ran towards the village. Past the village and up the faces of the past hokages. Into the depths of the forest where no one would see him. Where no one would find him. He chose a large tree with tree roots raising up and over the ground. Sitting underneath a particularly large root, he pulled out a kunai and a picture of Sasuke. He cried as the memories of the one loved flooded over him.

Then, he put the picture on the ground, and buried it in the dirt.

"I love you Sasuke."

Quickly he slashed both wrists from the hands to the elbows.

He cried out as the white-hot pain crashed through his weary body. The red blood poured out into the dirt and Naruto looked up past the leaves in the trees.

He looked at the few stars poking through the openings. They seemed so happy up there. He would be happy too. He would become a star. And when he was he would look down on the world and everyone would see him shining up there.

The black cloud that had been hovering on the horizon of his consciousness drifted over his eyes and lulled him into a sleep that he knew he would not wake from. And he didn't want to.
