Fluffy kitty cats. Mtn Dew. Doritos.

Those were my dreams on a normal basis. So, due to their unimportance, it was no surprise I would forget them so fast.

My eyes fluttered open to reveal the poster covered white walls of my room. The posters were of many varieties. Animes, TV shows, Movies, Books, Bands.

But the most noticeable things on the walls, were the paintings, and pastel portraits. Some even hung from clothes lines over the doorway.

The sound of my alarm-clock ringing suddenly filled my room. I quickly got up, and flipped the switch to turn it off. I stood there staring at the floor. For no exact reason, I had just zoned out. I began to get ready for school.

It was the second week in, and when I got out of the school bus, it was no surprise to see my junior high for the 14th time.

I was in 8th grade. Now, you may be thinking. But weren't you here for 7th grade, too?

Well, actually, the answer is no. I moved here from New York. Now here I am, Provo, Utah. The city of air pollution and the state of honey.

"Jarem Kate?" The teacher called.

I raised my hand.

"Present!"

The teacher continued to take role. As I sat at my desk in the front of class. My nose buried in my sketchbook as I drew random things.

I was in first period, which was actually my math class. Now, I didn't hate math. Certainly not. I just, hated the teacher. For that reason, I refused to do my homework.

Stupid, I know. But it's my reasoning, and I really don't care about your opinion.

I sat through class, perfectly content, until the teacher assigned partners. I looked over my shoulder, to see the person I had been assigned to. A girl with blonde hair, and brown eyes. Wearing all pink.

She sat down next to me.

"Phew, I thought I was going to have to work with a girl, I hate their drama."

I did a mental facepalm.

Well, I didn't exactly look like a girl. With short hair, a flat chest, and masculine features. I also liked when people mistook me for a boy.

But I preferred to be called an equal amount of 'he' and 'she.' Its kinda weird, I know that. But it's just what I'm comfortable with.

I didn't answer her, and instead continued drawing.

"Hey, can I see your art?"

I looked at her with a pokerface, closed the book, and simply said. "No."

After that, we began working on the assignment we were given.

The next period I had, was creative writing. Which I was very excited for. I loved the class.

The ducky part was, I had heard there was a new student. Sitting right next to me.

When I walked into the classroom and saw her, my spirits immediately dropped farther into the pit than I had even thought possible.

I was sitting next to an emo punk.
