L E V I

I GOT INTO Caden's car quietly this morning. The 'talk' that I had with my father yesterday afternoon still lingering around in my head.

Who knew a conversation lasting less than two minutes could bother someone so much?

I was not in the spirit to talk and thankfully- as per usual- neither was Caden. He was in his typical 'don't talk to me it's 6 AM' type of mood, so the two of us sat in silence as he made the drive out of my neighborhood.

I spent majority of the ride looking out the window, gazing at the large houses that we'd passed by. The houses seemed to be a blend of Old and New money, each differing in style, but large and flashy none the less.

      They all looked so empty.

There were no children playing outside before the school bus came, no man or woman getting in their car to head to their typical 9 to 5 job, and I also noticed that there was no one walking their dog, smiling and waving as we drove by. This neighborhood wasn't a community. It was just a damn show.

It all seemed so fake. Just like my father.

Caden and I parted ways without a word once we got to school. Initially I didn't even really speak to Jax that much this morning either, as today was the first day we were supposed to meet with our partner for the English project.

I had soon realized that Jaclyn and I had never actually discussed where we would meet to start working together. We didn't even speak a word to each other after class yesterday morning, considering she quickly left the room before I could get to her. Not that I was in a hurry to reach her. I think I was a little stunned that she was named my partner. Why was it such a shock to me? I had no idea, but I knew that I needed to get over it. It was probably nothing.

I followed Jax into the library, which was where he was meeting with his partner. A lot of students were sitting in there with their partners as well, so I figured that it would be the first place she would look when she got to school.

"Wheres Jaclyn?" Jax asked as we both sat down at a table. His partner, Tyler, joined us too.

I shrugged. "Don't know. She'll probably find me in here."

He nodded, then looked to Tyler and grinned. "I finally talked our boy Levi into going to Henry Lockhart's party this Saturday." Tyler playfully patted me on the back as I rolled my eyes.

"The Brain is actually going to a party?" Tyler asked in a tone that mocked shock. "Has Hell frozen over?"

"Oh ha ha," I sighed. "Enjoy the night while it lasts fellas, 'cause that's going to be one of the only times you'll see me at a party."
