The sky was filled with a small amount of light casting into darkness... Dusk.

My mind focused on one thought alone, shelter. My eyes were scanning the small amount of buildings around me as the dangers grew with the approaching moon.

My boots moved silently across the pavement careful not to make a sound if I did then a fate would come far worse them a bullet something that will send pure terror through your bones as you stare death in the face.

With the woods now long behind me I entered the outskirts of a city located in Ohio far from my destination which had been dragged further with the groups I was traveling in.

A silent sigh escaped my lips along side my patients while hands gripped the small box in my pocket dragging it from its compartment before retrieving a long paper object with flammable material inside, as I took a breath feeling the menthol case over my lungs I exhaled.

Smoking in a time like this was highly risky but the addiction was stronger as it helped calm my nerves, stress was something unforgiving and brought weakness which carried death hand in hand you need a clear calm mind.

As the sun started descending faster my slim options were coming down to the wire with time against me each place was far too risky they held little escape routes or proved sticky situations if an escape was needed something that should be avoided at all costs.

My heart rate started picking up pace you never truly get used to the terror that held these grounds even if you’ve lived it for months no matter the times these dangers have crossed your path it's still as feared as the first time.

Finally I saw it... a hardware store.

A smile found my lips as my route directed towards the place hoping it still held some valuable materials that would help fortify shelter for the night.

I checked through the window seeing the place trashed yet empty a good sign as plenty of valuables still occupied shelves making little time I entered the shop getting to work immediately.

A blow torch stood out as I silently thanked the small minds of people, my hand gripped the metal while dragging some tarps behind me it would make for a perfect fortification with the doors and windows melted shut I started chaining them.

Soon tarps were nailed over any glass panes sealing the view that way nothing could catch sight of me and want to enter that was necessary in the dark of night but I wasn’t done yet I needed to mask scent which proved tricky till my eyes landed on a bag of fertilizer.

Luck was on my side so far while I poured the dirt along any opening allowing no aromas out or in which helped my chances if I was to be found the doors wouldn’t last long as a car door was torn like paper yet sealed metal provided a sturdy wall allowing me time to escape while it was busted open.

Soon the store feel into pitch blackness as my steps became cat like careful not to disturb a thing which would sound like an alarm alerting the creatures outside to my presence I need to stay invisible to them through the night, running in darkness was high risk.

As I walked towards the counter silent screams echoed in the distance sending a chill over my spine as I could only wait and hope that I was safe for the pacing moon.

I soon found the counter where I rested on top leaning against a wall I closed my eyes allowing my senses to take over something I trained myself to do as darkness brought blindness which you rely on instinct from that point.

The sounds around me continued as normal the screams came and went with the sound of running I slowed my breath almost to a stop daring not to make any unnecessary noise/ scent.
