Braden screamed.
No, like, screamed.
Had the circumstances been different I'd have laughed at his scream, but not now.
"The Gov'll be after us!" he cried.
"Shut up!" I screamed back.
It was then Cole came back in, looking awful. I can't imagine why.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "No one ever fucks with the Gov. They'll be in shock. That oughta give us a little more time. Second, we're in the middle of the thickest forest in America. We have time."
We dragged the body out back and tossed him in a ditch, then covered his body with dirt and dead leaves until you couldn't tell a body was there. We ran back inside before it got too dark and pondered our options. Braden spoke aloud to himself.
"Well, we should have at least five days--"
Then there was a knock on the door.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Cole shouted, leaping over to the door and looking through the peephole.
He opened the door slowly to reveal a man with a black suit on. He had a receding hairline and a smile on his face that said "I know something you don't".
"Hello. May I come in?" he said, then stepped in before Cole answered.
He took a long look around. "Nice place. Bit rustic. But this is central Appalachians, eh?" he asked, not dropping the smirk.
I glanced out the window. There was only a black SUV, and from what I could tell only one other man in it.
"Low on back-up?" I asked, not peeling my eyes from the window.
"Don't need it." He looked at the three of us, the tall blond, the tiny awful-heroine, and the young brunette.
"We're going to the Government. In DC. You get ten minutes to get anything you need. Clothes'll be provided, so no need for that. No weapons, you'll be checked, so don't push us." He turned to the door and opened it. "Oh, and one more thing. Don't think of running."
He left, leaving the three of us in thick tension. I grabbed my bag and pulled my weapons out of it, and hid them under a floorboard. The only thing left in my bag was my jacket and a brush that was my mother's.
I walked outside before Braden and Cole and climbed into the car. The interior was all wood and leather and the windows were blackened.
Braden and Cole piled in almost immediately after and soon we were off.
We all fell asleep and we woke to Alexander shaking us awake.
"We're here!" The door opened.
We stepped out into the light, and walked into the Gov building.
Sorry for ending the chapter like this, so short, but I'm tired. Will update soon.
