After the sickly sweet gallon of sweet tea that I chugged down, I race to the sea. Grandma lives in a small part of Florida, on a coast that not many know about. No one is usually there, so Molly and I like to spend long hot days in the sun or in the refreshing ocean. I asked Grandma if Molly was home, but they had left to go somewhere right before we arrived!
I rush up to the edge of the ocean, breathing in the salty air, replacing the taste of sweet tea in my mouth with a salty ocean taste that makes me smile.
I look out to the horizon, wondering how far it stretches, what is out there, how deep it goes.
As I'm studying the water, I see something jump, not 20 feet out from the sand I'm standing on. I squint my eyes, daring it to jump again.
There is another splash, this time much closer to me. I slowly walk towards the water, until my toes touch the edge of the sea.
Then, out of nowhere, a dolphin comes bolting at me!
I sprint into the water, not exactly sure what to do.
She swims around me, jumping and splashing everywhere. I laugh as she goes under, her tail wiggling in front of my face.
"I'm going to call you Sasha." I say.
It looks like she nods, but then I could just be seeing things.
"Well Sasha, we will become great friends!" I assure her.
And that was the day I met my favourite sidekick, Sasha.
