You could imagine that the world could never go upside down in a blink of an eye, or losing someone in a heartbeat. The world that everyone knew is gone. Nathan a sixteen year old who is now alone was born in this world. It's been 20 years since the outbreak so he was brought into this world four years after the fall over the human race.

Nathan walked down the street that has dead bodies on the ground; there was dead infected and people laying in the streets. They were ether in a pool of their own blood, a gun shot to the head, or a bite marks and scratches all over. Nathan exhaled deeply as memories of his old safe zone went through his head. Everyone he knew just dead in the streets. He kept his head down as he walked. He had a black t-shirt on with a few holes here and there, blue jeans, and boots. He was around 6 feet tall, with a strong build. He had a scar that went down with his jawline, it was purple and it popped out. His dark brown hair was long enough to get in his face all the time or in his blue eyes.

He rested a hand on his revolver that was holstered on his hip. He looked around a bit as he listened carefully. He had a plan to stay in one of the houses a few blocks away from where he was at. He was about a few miles away from Pittsburgh. And hunters were following him lately, he was watching his back all of the time. He was hoping that one of his friends that he met in Pittsburgh made it out alive. He knew there was a small chance they didn't.

After about a half of an hour he made himself home in a old house. The walls were rotten or fallen down, the ceiling looked like it was going to fall in, and the windows were covered with wood planks. He sighed softly and took his bag off before setting in on the couch. He looked around the house for anything useful. He found some bandages, three cans of beans, and one bottle of water. He sat down on the ripped up blue couch before he took a small sip from the bottle of water. He rolled up his pant leg that showed a bite mark. It looked three days old but everyone turned in two days. He didn't understand why he didn't turn. But he wrapped it up with the bandages he found and rolled his pant leg back down.

He took out his old notebook that was left by his father who sadly past away when he was five. And his mother died when he was born sadly. He looked through old notes his father had left for him. One said.

'To my only son, I know the world isn't perfect but it's still worth living. Maybe one day you'll have your own family or at least someone to care about. I'm sorry that I'm never there but I know you'll make me proud someday. I love you Nathan. -Dad.'

Nathan closed his eyes tightly so tears wouldn't leak from his eyes. "I'm trying to make you proud dad..." He whispered before he put his notebook away. He set his bag on the floor and laid down on the couch. He closed his eyes slowly. He was exhausted, his feet hurt, and he could barely keep himself awake sometimes.
He slowly drifted off to sleep.

— Few hours later —

Nathan woke up to gun shots. They we're very close by. He got up and took his revolver out of his holster. He took cover by the window before peaking his head out. He saw a old man and a kid, well teenager with the old man,

"Ellie watch out!" The older man yelled before the girl took cover. The truck form Pittsburgh was there. Fucking fantastic. Nathan acted quickly by grabbing a spike bomb. Before heading upstairs. Sure it wasn't stable to be up there but he didn't care. He just wanted to help, He waited for the truck to get closer before he threw the spike bomb. The latch to the top of the truck opened the second after he threw the spike bomb and killed the hunters inside. Nathan looked down at the old man and girl who were looking around confused. But the older man spotted Nathan.

Nathan took cover before the Ellie yelled,
"It's fine to come down! We won't hurt you!"

Nathan didn't believe that but he stubbornly went down stairs and headed outside, Ellie thanked him for saving them but the older man just glared at him. Before Ellie elbowed him in the side,
"Lighten up Joel. He just saved our asses." Ellie replied with a small smile towards Nathan.

Nathan looked down, he was socially awkward so he didn't say anything.

"I'm Ellie and this is Joel." Ellie said and Joel mumbled underneath his breath.
"Nathan." Nate said, "Well you guys can stay in the house I was staying in. I'm about to leave anyways." Nathan said. Ellie frowned,
"Why don't you stay with us for now? It seems out by yourself." Ellie said before she looked at Joel.

Joel said fine before he headed into the house as Nathan and Ellie followed.

Nathan didn't know if he could trust them but he would try. He did trust Ellie a bit. But last time he trusted someone he got stabbed in the back so he needed to be careful. He knew the group he met in Pittsburgh were dead. At least he didn't get killed. He'd be keeping his eyes on Joel and Ellie though. But that was for his own safety.
