Light streamed through the open window as a gentle summer's breeze rustled the flower-patterned curtains. Outside, birds chirped and sang their songs. Inside, she sat on her rustic wooden chair, a plate of fresh cheese sandwiches set before her. She'd always loved cheese sandwiches, and had nearly always eaten them for lunch - but now, the sight of them made her stomach churn.

It wasn't the sandwich themselves. It was the memory that came along with it.

"Hello, sir. How may I help you today?"

He was no one, at first. Just one of the many customers that came and went out of Marielle's Coffee Shop. Just another face in the crowd, another voice ordering food, another hand exchanging money. He'd come up and smiled at her, and she had found herself staring at his dimples as she took his order.

"A medium sized black coffee, please, and a cheese sandwich."

"To go?"

"Yes, please."

She bagged his order, and he paid for his meal. Their fingers brushed ever-so-slightly as she took his notes and coins. $5.07 in total. He thanked her once again, his voice smooth and deep like velvet, before taking his leave. She remembered watching him go through the coffee shop's windows.

She hadn't known it then, but he was the man she would spend hours laughing and kissing and cuddling in the near future.

He was also the man she would spend hours crying over as well.

Closing her eyes, she let out a shaky breath, before standing up and taking the plate of cheese sandwiches with her. Without a word, she stormed out the back door, hands shaking, heart beating fast, before whirling them - plate and all - into her back garden.

If only she could throw her memories out like that as well.
