Stumbling out of the darkness of the night forest, Euphony began his journey to the path of the orange light. The exhausted frame had some troubles getting himself to walk; he figured he must have been asleep for quite a while based from how frail he felt.
Walking became easier once his legs were finally stretched out and adjusted to moving once more. But even walking seemed tedious after how long he'd been following this trail. It had to have been an hour in by now. Yet the closer he got, the more determined he was to reach his destination. Nothing could stop him now. He had to know where he was.
Finally after trudging up a pretty steep hill, Euphony collapsed. Completely wore out from the strenuous activity he wasn't used to anymore for so long, the male took a break. His breath more panting, he clutched to the fabric of his robe and looked up- the illumination from the glow stronger than ever. And he hadn't heard it til he was rested up a bit more, but there were sounds. Sounds of civilization.
Upon closer listening, he could hear the faint murmuring of a busy street of people. Excited shouts and laughter, monotone speech- it made him focus more clearly to see what the commotion was: a city. A huge city with tall skyscrapers, bustling activities, flying people...?
Euphony was in awe. These weren't ordinary people- they had wings, tails, horns. Skin tones of every hue and hair to match. They looked like him.
Forgetting how shaky his legs were, the tiny blue body excitedly rose from his spot and carried on, his pace faster than before and expression hopeful. Running down the hill was so much easier than climbing up.
The orange glows had been the life of a city all along. As Euphony wandered the streets, his eyes sparkling and mouth open in awe, he soaked the sights in. There were television - like projections on the sides of black buildings. The architecture gothic, extremely gothic; the sky an orange tint and the air muggy and warm.
In his wanderlust, he had bumped into a few of the civilians which had offered hisses and angry shoves in response and yet Euphony didn't care. He'd apologize half heartedly and carry on.
He came to a gigantic building that seemed to be focused in the middle of the downtown area. The building itself was so high up, no one could see the top from the 1st floor. The fancy gothic architecture body framed arches and gargoyles on every corner. The walls thick and decorative down to the last detail- the whole place quite lovely. A sign on the front of the door claimed it was now hiring, and offered tiny slips of information which Euphony ripped off and placed into his pocket.
He was just about to step inside when the broad doors swung open and a red skinned being stepped out. Euphony could only stare, surprised at how red this guy was. His skin, his hair, his irises. The sclera of his eye a warm yellow right below an eyepatch that sheltered the other; one horn, wings red and tail impatiently wagging. These were all the details Euphony could note before being snapped at.
"The fuck are you starin' at, eh?" The guy barked. "You ain't ever seen a high ranked incubus before?"
Incubus? Demon...of course, this red creature was a demon.
"I-I didn't mean to stare, I just..." His sentence trailed off as his eyes caught focus of a crowd of demons passing by.
The other demon sighed. "You're new aren't ya? You look extremely lost."
Euphony could only nod his head in embarrassment as response.
The demon continued. "Look man, or...I mean whatever you are. Newbie living quarters are right down the road. Biiiiiig building, sign in the front can't miss it. Just go in and find a room." Another sigh and then a wave of the hand. "Go on, get some rest. Get out of downtown and get a life now. And if you're truly desperate for a job, the incubi are recruiting. Inquire inside later- you'll get it if you ain't stupid. But damn will you regret it with the way our boss has been acting lately."
Euphony quickly nodded again, followed by a small bow. He thanked the demon before walking off.
"Oh, and welcome to Purgatoria, blueberry!" The demon called after him one last time before walking his own seperate way.
Purgatoria. The land of the incubi.
Euphony's new home. Euphony the incubus.

Author's note:
(Header art is my art)Oh boy, a chapter I'll eventually rewrite and improve when it's not late at night. I enjoy character interaction more than scenery description oops...💦
Anyways, the red asshole incubus is going to be a lot more relevant later on. And he'll probably get his own pov story eventually since he's pretty important. But we'll carry on for now.
Maybe you guys will get to the boss he was mentioning soon too
-ominous cackles-
