Athena Kelly
"You decided where you wanna go?" Boyd asked me as we sat on the cafeteria patio. It was lunchtime and we had just gotten back from Wendy's. We were now seated at a table eating.
"As of now, i'm going with FAMU" I said outloud for the first time. I hadnt really told anyone my decision yet. I didnt want to be one of those people that announced a new college every second. Senior Signing Day was soon. Thats when people announce which schools they're going to attend. Since we were among the worst schools academically in this this county, not many people participated. Out of the 250 seniors, only about 50 planned on attending college.
"So you 'boutta leave me down here?" Boyd said as if he were hurt by my decision.
"Well first of all, its the school thats giving me the most scholarship money and if you would do the application, you could go too", I said to him while digging in my food bag for a few fries.
"Ion know 'bout all that" he chuckled.
"Your grades are good, your test scores are good, i've seen you BS an essay in 30 minutes. You can get in" I encouraged him. Before I started talking to Boyd, I thought he wasn't that smart but he was actually one of the top students in the school. I had no idea why he was doubting himself.
"Ion think college for me. I'ma go up there and flunk out. Ion like school and I get distracted easy as fuck" he explained.
"So whats your plan?"
"I think I wanna run a barber shop to be honest. I'm already workin' in one. I make dough and I fucks with it. May as well have my own shit" he shrugged.
I nodded, taking in what he said. I was happy he knew what he wanted to do at least. Alot of people our age had no idea what they even wanted to do. That included me. Of course I was going to college but I had no clue what I wanted to major in. I wasnt even sure what career I wanted to have. I just chose to be an english major until I decided for sure what I wanted to do.
"You think too much" Boyd stated knocking me out of my thoughts.
"How do you know?" I questioned.
"You always zonin' out and shit", he chuckled.
"I have alot to think about."
"Y'all found Amaru?"
I sighed and shook my head no. Honestly I had taken my mind off of it for a few minutes but now my mind was racing again. "No. My mom and dad are acting as if we don't have a missing person case on our hands.
"What happened? You ain't ever really explain the situation to me. You just said she pregnant and missin'."
"I honestly don't know really. She was dating this guy thats older than her. My mom found out and a little later found out she was pregnant by him. My parents lectured and yelled at her. I haven't seen her since" I explained.
"Sonnell" he said.
"What?" I said confused.
"She pregnant by Sonnell?" he asked me.
"Who is that?" I questioned.
"Jamina brother."
"Yes!" I nodded.
Boyd made the conceited face and got really quiet. I squinted at him. "Why are you looking like that?" his face looked more stressed than mine.
"I'm trynna figure out how the fuck you finna find yo sister."
"What do you mean?" I said nervously. He was making me anxious.
"Every female that fuck with that nigga disappear."
My heart stopped. "Please tell me you're joking" I pleaded.
"Nah. Tell yo parents stop playin' 'round. She prolly dead" he said.
I gasped. "Dont say that!" I kicked him under the table.
"Ow! Damn. I know the nigga and from the way the situation set up, shit not looking too good" he mumbled.
The thought of my sister being dead had my brain ready to explode. Of course she was annoying and hardheaded but she was my little sister and I loved her. On top of that, she was carrying a child.
"You prolly over there thinkin' the worst" Boyd said while eating his food. He was right.
"You're the one that said she's probably dead" I argued.
"Sorry. My mouth move faster than my brain sometime" he apologized.
I nodded and started to finish the rest of my food while he talked my ear off about something I wasnt really paying attention to. All I could think about was finding my sister.
There was only one person who could help me. That person was the root of a handful of the problems in my life since he'd entered it.
That person was Cato.
Cato Willis
"Nigga what the fuck we finna do 'bout this shit?" Rico asked me. I was already pissed the fuck off and him panicking like a lil' bitch wasnt making it any better.
"Ion fuckin' know" I snapped. We had went to do another drop and got robbed. The first one was aight but this time shit was shaky and ended bad. I told Jeron I wasnt made for this shit. I had a specific job for a specific reason. The nigga just set me up for failure.
"We gotta do somethin'. Both us gone be dead if we dont."
"We gone shut the fuck up about it until we figure some shit out."
At this point I had two options. I could tell them what happened and hope they have mercy on my black ass or just not say shit, duck off, and hope they dont find my black ass.
"Where i'm droppin' you bruh?" I asked Rico. I had to get rid of this nigga. He was makin' my nerves bad as fuck. I needed to get home and smoke a blunt.
"At my house" he mumbled. I nodded and headed towards his street. Thank God we was by his neighborhood. I couldnt stay around him.
I pulled up at his house and he dapped me up. "Aight bruh. I'ma holla at'chu later" he said and got out the car. I shook my head and drove off.
I barely got down the damn street before my phone was ringin'. I looked at it and seen it was Athena. "Wassup?" I answered it.
"I need to talk to you. Its important" she said.
"'Bout what?"
"My sister."
I stayed quiet. I really aint have no information about her sister. So she was shit outta luck.
"Ion know shit 'bout that" I told her off rip.
"I wasnt expecting you to. I just know that you know that guy and I want help finding my sister."
"You good" I wasnt 'bout to dig a deeper grave for myself. That shit just wasnt 'bout to happen.
"You owe me" Athena said. I scrunched my face up.
"For what?" I chuckled at her statement. She was wylin'.
"A lot of things. Listen, i'm not asking you to play captain save a girl's sister. For now I'm just asking you to please make sure she's safe."
I sucked my teeth. "Aight. Bye." I hung up before he could say anything else. I aint know how I was supposed to stay lowkey and find out if her sister was good at the same time. Then a nigga also had to keep Athena from gettin' snatched up, figuratively and literally.
Shit was gettin' more and more complicated everyday.
