Late that night I sat at the boys bedside placing a cloth on his forehead to help bring down the fever that was spiking. The bowls of water Con laid out earlier sat on the bedside table at my side Con lay on a cot in the far corner of the room a sheet covering him as he slept peacefully exhausted from the day.
"Don't..... Touch... Me..." The boys strangled voice comes through gravely and weakly at first I was unsure that I had heard him till he smacks my hand away roughly gripping at my wrist with a strength that made me gasp out in pain.
He sits up groggily and his dark hair falls lazily over his forehead sweat dripping down his face he struggles to sit up leaning back on his other arm his face paling. Sweat lines his forehead as he glares down at me his blue eyes like liquid venom as I stare up at him wide eyed.
"What are you doing here... mutant?" He spits out the last word with such a force that I physically flinch at being called a mutant.
It is then that Athena crashes through the door the Guardian by her side upon seeing the boy she stops gasping the Guardian at her side run to the boy and I try to get my wrist out of his grip but he grips it like iron so I close my eyes and transfer some of my energy to him keeping him active.
He feels the burst of energy enter his system and stares at me wide eyed, before he can say anything the Guardian's have him in their arms smiling and laughing.
"Holy crap Ky! You scared us!" The one says her voice cracking mid sentence, the boy only glares at me before looking down as they bombard him with questions.
"Why is it here?" He asks slowly his grip tightening on my wrist again, being called an it was standard for someone being gifted we were not people.
"She is why you are alive Kyle." Athena says and his glare snaps towards her. "She is a remarkable healer. Her and her companion have been working tirelessly to save you, you can thank her for you being alive." Athena says looking down at the boy he side glances at me quickly before shaking his head.
"Since when do we view those things as people." He snarls out letting go of my wrist and I look down folding my hands in my lap and feeling his words like daggers.
"Silence Colderight," she snaps and he clenches his jaw. "She will be caring for you till you are healed." She says standing and walking to the door way, the second she leaves his fist comes down on the bedside table the wood breaking shards flying into his hand.
I stand moving the chair from his bedside to the window and move the now broken side table away from the bed feeling his glare on me the whole time.
I keep my eyes casted down as I clean the spilt water and broken shards placing the broken shards into a bowl and carrying them towards the door setting them there lightly.
I dust myself off slightly and ignore the throbbing in my wrist a purple-black bruise starting in the shape of his fingers.
"You going to fix me or what?" He barks out his voice hoarse, I sigh walking over to him and placing my hand in front of him palm up he regards my hand as though it is a foul creature and I sigh about to lower my hand when he grabs it tight closing his eyes.
I close my eyes and feel his bones fixing themselves and I hear him gasp as he looks at me his dark blue eyes staring at his hand healing itself.
"H-how....?" He stutters out and I pull my hand from his shaking my head as Con answers for me.
"She is able to control cells at a molecular level manipulating them to reform and she speeds up the regeneration process to proved growth and repair. It's basic science how gifts work it depends on what molecules you can manipulate." Con snaps glaring at the boy as he helps me move the broken table towards the door.
"Watch your tone with me you freak." The boy hisses out and Con turns on him narrowing his eyes.
"Call me what you wish, I only saved you for her," He says gesturing to me taking a step towards the boy who sits up more ready to challenge Con. "You have all taken everything from me you all have tortured my kind and mangled us our whole lives you hackled at us through locked doors because you knew if they were open you'd fall under our powers. You hate what you don't understand and that's pathetic. So call me what you want at least I know what I am." He spits the words like venom slamming down the dresser and walking to the other side of the room to the little attached room slamming the door behind him.
The boy glares at the wall clenching his fists before turning and punching the stone wall his knuckles beginning to bleed. The boy yanks himself out of bed trying to stand but falling helplessly to his knees screaming as he faces his head down lowering his head.
I walk to him quietly taking his hand in mine and this time he lets me as I take a cloth to his knuckles softly using the remaining energy I have to offer him some comfort. The boy looks at me his blue eyes looking into mine.
"I'm sorry..." He trails off his voice hoarse looking at me I shake my head smiling softly at the boy feeling anxious at being this close to a Guardian.
"You've got nothing to apologize for, no come on you need to rest." I say and he goes to protest but I shake my head silencing him the boy looks at me as I help him slowly and painfully back onto the bed tucking him in as though he were a child.
"Just rest..." I say to him with a smile gently wiping his hair out of his eyes and he nods closing his eyes his breathing hard from the strain of moving from the floor to the bed.
I walk to the door on the opposing side of the door and turn the handle gently opening it to find Con being held by a Guardian chains back around his neck and hands his face bloody his hair sweaty. A gag is tied tightly into his mouth the leather hands holding his leash.
"Bedtime pets." The voice snickers as leather hands grab me shoving me to the ground binding me as they did Con my blonde hair covering my eyes briefly before I am yanked up by the hair roughly.
We are shoved out of the small room and into the bigger room here the boy sits up suddenly glaring at the Guardian who hold us hostage.
"What're you doing?!" He yells startling the Guardian holding me.
"Y-you're awake, sir." The one stutters out and the boy just nods glaring at how they treat us.
"They rest in the gallows for now, Athena's orders." The other says and the boy nods narrowing his eyes in speculation.
"Then be quiet about it." The boy grumbles turning over in his bed roughly. The gag is tight in my mouth and feels uncomfortable as my lips feel as though they're going to rip into a permanent smile.
I'm yanked around down the winding stone stairs till my feet ache when we reach the bottom, Con looks at me his eyes wide as if he's trying to tell me something.
I know what his look says, it says 'I told you', the Guardian have betrayed us once again tricked us into doing the hard work for them and now they will lock us back up where we came from.
The door at the bottom of the stairs is unlocked the lock smashed laying on the floor and Con looks at me puzzled.
Why would they break their own lock?
