It was a dare, that’s all it was. I didn’t mean it, but as usual ‘Daredevil’ Tanya did not refuse. Everyone said ‘It’s dangerous’ or ‘You won’t do it’ baiting her, so she dragged me along as well. It’s all my fault. I can only hope it doesn’t happen to you.

It was December 26, 2001 when it happened, just after Christmas. What great present(note the sarcasm). My friend Shizu and I were at Tanya’s house playing ’Truth or Dare’ at Shizu request because we planned to dare her to videotape a tour of ‘The House of 22 Queensway’. A haunted house. Rumour has it that anyone who even steps onto the property will has nightmares for years. Anyone who steps through the door is cursed to never see the light of day again.

So we dared her. I dared her. Everyone found out about it and kept on saying how ‘She won’t got through with it’ that’s how I ended up coming along. As we stepped through the taunting door that led to freedom, I could not help the feeling of dread in my stomach or the shiver up my spine.

“Are you sure we should be doing this” I asked uncertainly.

“Oh, come on.”Typical, we were in a haunted house and all she could do was whine “You said the dare” 

“But Shizu suggested it’ I countered.

As we walked down what seemed like an endless corridor, the floor creaked, alerting the house of intruders. The portraits eyes appeared to be following us, spying on us. We just advanced into the living room when a fierce wind blew up. Everything was shaking and falling. It scared me to much. I ran out. Out of the house, taking Shizu with me as she’d been waiting out there for hours. I never heard Tanya’s scream.

The next morning, ‘The House of 22 Queensway’ was in the newspapers. Evidently, there was a charred, nearly decomposed body that turn to dust shortly after it was found with a crushed videotape recorder beside it.

Sometimes I believe the rumours we heard as I am now blind. Many years have passed and I think that you should never tempt fate and ALWAYS avoid curses because it only matter before you pay with your life.
