Chapter Two: The Only Thing Cold Is His Heart

"Dear God! Can't you do anything right! Look at this! This is an Armani shirt and you just ruined it. The cost of this shirt alone is more than what you make in two months!" He looked around the shop then again at me. "Make that three."

My eyes narrowed at this. Who the hell does this jack-wagon think he is?

"Listen here. I may not have a fancy job or an expensive shirt, however, I am happy with what I do and take pride in the fact that I'm not a demanding prick like you."

All I could see was red and I'm pretty sure this color was also seen by the man in front of me. However, despite my frustration, I was in a state of confusion. How could he still look amazing with coffee spilt over him? I quickly snap myself from this thought. Don't think that he's the devil!

The man angrily huffed before he started walking to the bathroom to presumably clean up.

"Also!" I called after him. "Don't be rude to your servers. We might add extra spit in your order."

I heard the door slam and I smiled.

Tess: 1

Jackass: 0

As I started walking to the back of the shop to get a mop for the spilt coffee, my humming was ceased as darkness clouded my vision. The power must have gone out.

I was about to go check the breaker box when the lights came back on with a shaking hum and serious voices blared from the TV in the seating area.

"This is one of the biggest storms to sweep the Midwest in over a decade, we are expecting a large snowfall. With conditions outside we are strongly advising you to stay indoors. The wind chill is up to -45 degrees and is dangerous itself, combined with the harsh snowfall it is best to stay inside. We will keep you updated throughout the scheduled programs this evening-"

"Well shit," I murmured as the news cut to a commercial.

I jumped when another voice echoed throughout the room.

"I'm not staying in this dump, I'm leaving."

The man had returned and my eyes widened at his statement as I saw him putting his jacked on over his freshly stained shirt.

"Woah you can't be serious. You'll get into an accident or get stuck! If your car died out there you'd freeze too! Just stay here I'm sure the worst of it is just passing."

Did I just say that? Why do I have to be such a decent human. I just wanted to get rid of the man who's been the bane to my existence for the past half an hour, but the weather and my conscience say otherwise.

I guess Mr. I'm-better-than-you didn't like my response because he turned to me seething.

"If you think that I'm going to stay here with an unintelligent nuisance like you, then you can forget it!"

With that he stormed out. I was mainly surprised he even walked out the door after he opened it because the gust of wind was so strong I felt it all the way from the counter.

"He's going to come back," I said to myself as I started to make a drink.

However, minutes past and I started to get worried, maybe he made it to his car? Maybe he didn't? He's too arrogant to die, right? Although he seems too arrogant to set his pride aside to get help...

Suddenly a familiar ring echoed throughout the room.

I skipped over to the phone with a swimming mind and answered.

"Hello this is Papillon's Coffee House, Tess speaking, how may I help you?"

"Tess, this is Sandy. I just saw the news and I think it's best if you stay at the shop for now. Even after close if it's still bad. If you need to stay the night there are blankets in the closet in the back, and as you know the place is full of food if you need. I'm sorry you are there right now! If I would have known sooner about the weather I would have closed earlier!"

"Thanks Sandy, I'll do my best to hold up the fort, have a goodnight. Goodbye," I replied.

I hung up the phone and let out a deep sight before resting my head in my hands. I probably should have brought my course work with me today, but how was I suppose to know that I would be snowed in?

Suddenly I heard a gust of wind and the jingle of the front door. I crept out and took a peek from behind the counter to see that the man had returned. With the state of his snow covered clothes and shivering form he must have come to his senses and come back.

My annoying conscience was back at full force in no time and I decided to do the unthinkable. I made him coffee. Shocking I know. Despite disliking him with a passion (a feeling that was definitely mutual), the man was obviously freezing and despite my feelings I knew it would do some good to at least get him warm again so he wouldn't get sick. I'm already stuck here with I'm, so I'd prefer if he didn't start to sneeze every few seconds.

With that in mind I quick made the drink he had requested before, grabbed a store T-Shirt and sweatpants that had the logo plastered on them, and marched over confidently. Now the main reason my stride was confident was mainly due to the fact that he had gone to the bathroom and I was setting down the goods to an empty seat. I mean, I'm not that bold.
