Chapter 1 - I got a job!

She walked down the street, head down avoiding the stares of people shopping on the Sunday afternoon. Turning round a quiet corner she entered the rundown area of the town. Up ahead the only three shops still in business sat staring down at her.

She walked into the first shop, fair-price, and got her bright red hair dye, a bag of m&m's, and a couple cans of dog food.

"Hey Hallie hows you and your brother, Blake?" Jona asked.

Jona was a woman who like most 50 year old's were sweet but that's it. She still in her mind acted like a 20 year old. She always looked out for Hallie and Blake as a second mother after their parents had passed in the events of 9/11. She has dark midnight black hair with a strip of violet purple in it, today her hair was tied up in a neat messy bun.

"Oh we're good, ive been ill the last 3 weeks some sort of flu, so Blake stayed off work as much as he could to care for me. But im fine now worry over." Hallie laughed warmly. Jona sent her, her trademark warm smile that she had given since Hallie could remember.

"Well you tell your brother to come and visit me or ill come down to that office and tare him a new one!" she laughed jokingly, or was she Hallie could never tell these days.

"Ok, I will it was nice seeing you again Jona, so how much is it?" Hallie smiled.

"Good girl, that will be $21.95 dear." Jona chuckled.

Hallie payed and bid her goodbyes then went to the next shop, and got some food for tea and other essentials.

As she enter the next shop she hollered out for her boss and friend, Celeste Monroe, Celeste ran a small car spray paint and repair shop. Hallie from time to time would help Celeste with the spraying part of the job, Celeste did the tills and unfortunately as much as she hated it the repairs too.

"Oh Hallie its you do you think you could do a shift today I could use it, I have a guy coming looking for a job and ill need to interview him this way i don't have to close up for the next hour." Celeste said in a pleading tone.

"Sure i was just coming to ask for a shift anyway, and thanks for the last 3 weeks i didn't want to have to take a short leave but i couldn't come with a flu like that!" Hallie thanked. "Anyway whens this new guy get here?"

"Don't worry you have time to change let me put these in the office safe." Celeste grabbed the shopping and put it on the top of the cabinet in the office for safe keeping.

"Ok-" Hallie was cut off bye the door bell chime "He's here quick get changed!" Celeste rushed.

Hallie was shoved into the back room to get changed. the office door closed and one second later a customer came in. "How may i help you today sir?" Hallie asked the man who was looking at the popular designs displayed along the walls around them. "em?... which would you say is the best suited to that car there" he said pointing to a Aston martin DBS. "Well personally non of these on the walls wait here one moment." Hallie ran to the back room and on top of the wardrobe pulled out a file she had full of designs shed created, running back she placed it on the desk and showed the man one of her latest designs. "hum.... yes that looks good how much?" " that will be $44.99 and if you want I can paint it now no fee?" "yeah here how long will it take?" he asked handing her the keys to the car. "about 30 mins or 40 mins depends if i can get the paint fast enough" Hallie smiled.

Hallie left the man to read a magazine in the window that showed the inside of the garage and parked the car inside she locked the doors and put up the windows so everything was closed. the keys were put into a plastic bag to protect them from the paint and then on the stool in the corner. then she set to work placing the tape on the car and getting the necessary paint she finished the job with 5 mins to spare using this time she checked everything over and let it dry off.the clock struck 7:30pm as she pulled the car up into the car park round the front for the man, he thanked her and was on his way. Hallie was counting the money as the office door opened and out stepped a guy and Celeste, she instantly assumed he was the one she interviewed and by the looks of things it went well.

"Hey Hallie how was the shift?" Celeste asked.

"um... what? oh right it went well here its the pay from the customer." Hallie said "he didn't like the ones on the wall for his car so um.... I gave him my folder and he used one of those i hope you don't mind,...... I didn't want to lose a customer on my first day back." Hallie admitted sheepishly.

"oh cool, which one did he get then?"

"design 43, the one with the flames and this" she pointed to the design and traced her finger over the black swirls around and in the flames." she smiled to herself at the sight of the drawing.

"n-n-not bad d-d-did you draw t-this?" Hallie jumped not really remembering he was there till that point. "yeah I-I-I d-did, thanks" she blushed.

"Oh! how could I forget this here is Logan, he will be joining us when again?" Celeste introduced. "T-t-tomorrow, nice to meet y-you, whats your um...name?" "oh, um H-Hallie." Hallie blushes.

"Well I-I um... hope to see y-you um..... tomorrow?" Logan stuttered. " 'Thanks for everything, Herc, its been a real slice' " Hallie said quoting Disney, something she does when shes nervous or excited. Celeste nudged Hallie and gave her a look like 'what-the-hell-your-scaring-him-and-yes-i-know-you-cant-help-it-but-try-to-please.

"Um I'd like that" Hallie blushed, while Logan smirked a cocky grin and waved bye.

Half an hour later Hallie left the auto-shop, and trudged through the rain that had started to pour as she left. She walked down the deserted road that lead up to her home and unlocked the door, walking in she kicked it closed behind her. She dropped her shopping in the side in the kitchen and went to the front room and turned on the T.V watching whatever came on absent mindly, not long before she dozed off to sleep on the sofa.
