Death

You can say that I am selfish. That I am the root of all evil.

You can tell stories to your sons and daughters about how they should fear

But I only take what I am given. I never promote my name.

No, how you choose to adopt me is completely up to you.

You may accept me, welcome me, others do not.

But to all, I am inevitable, I am eternal.

And should you avoid me; once, twice, thrice, I will find you

I am eternal darkness. I am who I am. This is my story.

Swords and spears and shields and war

300 men march, to spill gallons of gore.

To protect their home and the ones they love,

They'll fight, and their enemy, they will dispose of.

More than a millennia later, Scandinavia, springs from sleep.

I rouse their sleeping warriors, turning them into a force unopposed.

Every victim they take, every village they massacre, is another demon joining my army,

Waiting 'till the time is ripe, so that we may strike with vengeance.

The time has arrived; that is 1789, when countries are corrupt with power,

Those that rebel are met with bullets, but how long will they last?

A final push, one last assault, a homemade barricade.

I greet them all with deadly, open arms

As the wrath of the Devil's fury rains down on opposing sides.

On the bloody shores of Gallipoli, cries of the wounded carry for miles

While I slowly circle them, waiting for their last breath

Their blood gushing down the beach, like a tsunami bringing only loss.

As Nazi Germany continues to conquer, their lust for power has no end,

The world pleads for mercy but is met with death and despair

More innocent souls are greeted by Myself as they escape from hell to hell,

Their souls run aground on the jagged edges of my domain.

Ten years later, I make yet an assault again, this time in Vietnam, my victims are innumerable

My children: famine and pestilence, spread like a disease throughout legions

The stench of rotting corpses brings a deathly quality to the forest

And souls come in their millions to join my unholy crusade.

The 1900s is at its end, a new generation has begun; technology is advancing

Countries binding together to defeat war, in an effort to reignite hope;

But in Iraq, they only add to the fire, as souls are tortured

As time takes a turn for the worst, I still live for Death.

My child, the Devil from hell has returned yet again, screaming his ghastly cry

War will soon follow in his wake, the deaths will be untold

My poison of lies spreads throughout the young, turning them into murderers

Throughout ISIL and all wars in history, I will always triumph.

Famine. War. Pestilence. Evil. The Devil. Hell itself has arrived. Me.

No God can save them; no prophet will warn them.

There will be no saviour from the heavens.

Thunder rolls across the sky, storms mustering in their millions.

Revelations has finally arrived, every soul turned demon that has welcomed my presence

Can finally rise from the fiery pits to take what is theirs.

As seven trumpets sound, we strike with ferocity

I promised mankind this event would occur thousands of years ago.

Humans lust for power; that is your greatest weakness.

A show of colours, a feat of strength and speed and skill.

That is the outline of humanity.

And for that sin, you shall pay the ultimate price.

We make our journey across oceans and continents, a cloud of darkness infecting cities

In the cold and the heat; under the sun and under earth

We find all who hide and unleash our disease and fury and rage

And you will hear our cry.

We fester on the souls of the dead, our presence felt across the world

We have torn down cities, and destroyed what is left of their humanity

Yet, on the distant black horizon, where the sky still rains blood, a lone spirit wanders.

We are Alpha and Omega. Beginning and End. He is Life. And I am Death.

We are destined to spend our existence like this for all eternity,

A constant battle of superiority, a tangle of black and white,

And when the dust settles for all to see, what is left?

The grey.
