Up until I was in the arena I felt like I had a pretty good chance. Was I ever so wrong. The minute the elevator stopped and I was standing in the ring of tributes, I knew I was dead. Previously I thought I had a small bit of a chance, but since I was in an arena with tons of other tributes who are taller, bigger, smarter, and stronger than me, my chances of victory looked slim. I looked at the platform next to me, standing there was one of the girls from District One, I think it's Kaylin. She was glaring at someone, I followed where her eyes were pointing, she was glaring at Kyle. At least I'll survive longer than Kyle, he's first place on everyone's kill list. Without any warning, the timer started counting down; "29, 28, 27". I started getting worried, I imagined thousands of possible scenarios that could happen, I could be one of the first to die in the first minute bloodbath. I could be tracked down and killed by one of the stronger tributes. "20, 19, 18, 17, 16". I looked over to the pile of stuff clustered below the Cornucopia, there's a bow and arrow, that won't help me. Backpacks, food, water, that's better. Finally, I settled on one of the smaller backpacks, partially hidden by a stand of knives. I knew I couldn't survive without taking something. "10, 9, 8, 7" The other tributes were ready to run, but I couldn't tell who was going for the Cornucopia and who was going to run the other way. "6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" The horn sounded, and tributes started running. Kyle immediately ran into the forest, Kaylin followed him. What did he do to piss her off so much? Several other tributes also ran straight into the forest, but about seven of them ran to the Cornucopia. Two girls were fighting for a backpack, one of the boys from District Four grabbed a sword. Leslie, from District One was stabbed by a boy from District Eleven. Two more girls were killed when one of them accidentally throws a grenade. Finally, I stepped off my podium. I ran around the side of the Cornucopia, I grabbed the bag that I had decided on earlier, and while everyone was distracted with killing each other I ran into the forest. Even after I had been running for about five minutes through the trees, my breath is shaky and my heart was pounding, I didn't stop, I didn't want to die so early into the games. After a few more minutes I finally came to a stop. I listened, but all I could hear was my breathing and my heart pounding in my ears. I sat down against a tree to catch my breath for a second. I decided to see what's in my backpack. I unzipped it and started looking, water, energy bar, jacket, rope, knife. I let out a sigh, maybe I won't die. Out of nowhere, I heard footsteps. I took the knife out from my bag and start running. It may not have been a good decision to run with a knife in my hand, but it was the Hunger Games, safety wasn't exactly top priority. As I continued to run, I didn't hear footsteps other than my own, I decided that whoever was behind me was now gone. I came to a stop and listened. I couldn't hear anything, but I could see smoke, coming from a bush in front of me. Is someone actually making a fire? I snuck up to the bush and looked over it, sitting there in front of me, with his back turned, is Kyle. How the hell did he escape Kaylin?! I twirled the knife in my hand, they did say it's kill or be killed, and Kyle sure doesn't deserve to still be here, I'll be doing him a favor. I took a couple steps closer, then jumped through the bushes. Kyle turned around and screamed. Instead of trying to run away or anything of that sort, he stayed sitting. I threw my knife, it landed perfectly in his chest, and a few seconds later Kyle is dead. I waited for the cannon, and wasn't disappointed, just like at the Cornucopia, a cannon echoed in the distance, signaling another tribute's death. Finally, I don't have to listen to his stupid voice anymore. I took my knife back, and kept moving. The sky began to get dark, throughout the day I heard a total of four canons, not including Kyle's, or the one's from the first minute bloodbath. I decided not to sleep tonight, in District Twelve, I could go days without sleep, and I know energy is good, but I really don't want to die. After it got completely dark and the stars came out, they started to show the pictures of fallen tributes on the roof of the arena. First was Leslie, the girl from District One, then Raquel from District Three, Kat from District Ten, Kyle (of course) from District Twelve, Zion from District Two, Hunter from District Five, Zach from District Seven, and Madison from District Eight. Congratulations Zoe, you made it through the night.
