Genevieve's POV

I could still feel the blood running down my face. I ran into my house, luckily it was six am, and my parents were still asleep. I ran upstairs, and locked myself in the hall bathroom. I quickly grabbed the first aid kit from underneath the sink. I started to dump everything out on the counter, and that was when I saw it. My reflection. I was beaten and bruised. There was blood all over my face, and even some all over my shirt. I couldn't believe this happened to me. Just a couple hours ago everything was normal. Well as normal as it could be, for me.

A Couple of Hours Earlier

It was supposed to be the greatest night of my life. I could hear my family screaming my name, "Congrats Gen!! We love you!!" Graduating from high school should've been one of the greatest moments of my life, but I was a completely miserable mess. The one person I wanted their most wasn't, because she was dead.

My best friend, Jane LaFont, and I have been best friends since kindergarten. On our first day of school I was teased mercilessly for being adopted, by Megan Ryland. Jane decided to take justice into her own hands by cutting off Megan's ponytail during nap time and ever since we've been as thick as thieves.

Growing up me and Jane were often mistaken for sisters. With Jane being an intimidating six foot one blonde with cobalt blue eyes, and me being an average five foot five blonde with forest green eyes. The one major difference between us was Jane had a heart condition. However, she would not let that slow her down. She would always refer to her heart as a time bomb, and she wanted to do as much as she could before she went off.

Jane always lived life to the fullest and made sure she had no regrets. She always said "Ten years from now when I look back on this, I would rather say 'I can't believe I did that.' Instead of 'I wish I would've done that.'"

This was the girl who in the middle of a Dodger game, ran across the field screaming "I LOVE THE DODGERS!!" She had a way to make everyone smile from random people, to her parents, her pet ferret Georgette; and even the security guards who had to drag her off the field after the Dodger incident, had huge smiles on their faces when me and Jane's parents got her.

Six weeks ago, was when I started to fall apart. We were at prom. We weren't just celebrating the end of our senior year, but also the new heart Jane had received a couple of weeks earlier. The heart that was supposed to save her life.

Me and Jane were walking out to her car after the prom. "I'm just saying Gigi you can do so much better than him." She said using the nickname she had given me when we were little. "All I ask is that you stop calling my boyfriend, a loser." I told her. She replied, "I'll stop calling him that when, he stops acting like one. So, have you heard back yet?"

"Heard back from who?" I asked.

"The King of Norway. What do you think? Have you heard back from USC yet?" she asked in her enthusiastic tone.

"Yes, I have." I told her.

"AND?"

"I got accepted." I said softly.

"AHHHHH!!!!!" Jane squealed. "I knew you could do it Gigi." She said while pulling me into a vice grip of a hug.

"Hold on. I still don't know if I'm going to go there." I told her.

"What are you talking about? USC is your dream school." She practically yelled at me.

"I'm just trying to consider my options. I might just go to UCLA with Darren." I tell her.

"Okay first off Darren is a control freak of a loser boyfriend. Second you shouldn't give up your dream school for him. He isn't worth it." Jane said.
