How It All Started

It seems appropriate to start this story when I was in the second grade. I'll be brutally honest with you right now, I had no friends. Yeah sure ok, you don't have to care... yet. But in case you care, I'll allow you to get to know my situation.
So from preschool, all the way through first grade I had friends, but I sure had to work for those friends. In preschool I was EXTREMELY shy. And I mean very, very shy. So because of this I maybe had two friends. Leila and Marissa. We did EVERYTHING together and we were so close.

Cutting past a lot of preschool days, we made it through kindergarten. And not to brag or anything, but we like totally had made more friends in kindergarten. But right before the start of first grade, Marissa moved away. Yeah I know right, just fabulous.

Thinking I'd be ok without her, I went into first grade just a little shaky. I figured; I have Leila and all my new close friends right?
Wrong.
Apparently all my new friends had made an also new group. This new group was referred to as the "Squat Squid Squad". I know, try to say that ten times fast. Whatever it meant, I had no idea. All I knew was all my friends, including Leila, were a part of it.

At first, I was a little skeptical of the group. So for a while I kept my distance, hanging with different crowds. I got to know Ella and Taylor pretty well. And Jessica too, but they were in my girl scout troop, and they believed in fairies and mermaids. I never really believed in fairies and mermaids.
Ella was especially funny. Her mom was the troop leader. Ella thought she was part mermaid.
I spent a lot of my time with Ella, Jessica, and Taylor, but I never forgot to observe the Squat Squid Squad. They had their own ways now. They all dressed the same, talked the same, acted the same, and even had the same handwriting!
(To this day, I still can't get the handwriting right.)
I'm pretty sure the only way I knew which one was Leila, was because she was the only red head.
But sadly even that soon changed.
