I had always loved the ice as a kid, whether it was hockey, figure skating, couples skating, or just skating around having fun. I guess that's the reason why I find myself skating with some of the world's top-ranked Canadian young male junior league. Back home in Seattle Washington, my hockey coach suggested to my parents that I'd be better off playing in Canada. Soon after getting to Canada, the coaches told us, meaning my parents and myself, that I should be moved to Minnesota and play with their prep school called Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school. So with that, we packed up again and headed to Minnesota. It was during my transition to Minnesota and to St. Mary's when I first met the man who would change not only my life but also the game of hockey forever. Sidney Patric Crosby was just a little over a month older than me. I had heard stories that Sid had learned how to skate at the age of 3, where I had learned at the age of 2. Sid was one of few that didn't judge me for being a Tom-boy or for being one of few who ever girls to be allowed on the boy's team.
"Beep, beep", my 4:30 am alarm goes off waking me up from my nightly dreams. "Kate come on wake up. You don't want to be late again for your morning warm-up skate before classes do you?" I told my roommate and best friend. Kate was training to be a professional Olympic ice skater. The great thing about us being roommates is that we both have the same morning warm-up skate schedule. The only thing that we don't have together is the same bedtime schedule. Kate goes to bed way before I do. "Ok, Ms. Hockey pants, I'm up, I'm up." She says. After she and I get dress and grab our bags, we make our way down to the food court to meet up with your other friends and grab a quick something. Once we reached the food court, we are met by Sophia and Louie, couples skate duo (both are actually seeing each other). " So crazy grey( his nickname for me) how's Sid these days, I haven't seen him around you since that party that Karl through last month?
