May 2
Setting down my bike, I walk up the black driveway. I look up to see I'm about to enter the largest, most expensive looking house, or mansion, I've ever seen. Colten's place.
Hearing a car pull into the driveway, I pick up sounds of footsteps tip-toeing towards me. In an instant I know who it is.
"Wyatt, you know you can't scare me anymore." I say, barely able to contain my laughter.
"I know." He walks the remaining distance towards me and play punches my arm, like he had done this morning.
"We should probably go inside, its rude to keep people waiting." I respond, not wanting to go inside, but wanting to stay out here, talking to him.
He doesn't say anything, so I guide him to the door and knock. After a few minutes, the door opens to reveal a woman in her mid-forties. Just a little taller than me, with red hair and blue eyes, she jumps when she gets a good look at us.
"What do you want?" She demands in a voice of royalty.
I answer, saying, "Hello, Mrs. Saln. We're Colten's friends. He invited us over. Can we come in?"
Colten's dad pops up from behind her, sharing the same expression with Colten's mom of loathing. I greet Colten's dad with the same cheerful tone and glance back at Colten's mom.
Mrs. Saln stares us down, trying to detect a lie. Finally, after a full minute of silence, she lets us in, not even trying to mask her annoyance.
To describe the feeling of the mansion is like trying to walk on water. What I can describe is it's appearance. With white walls, mahogany doors and furniture, and glass tables, it was a house made just for the rich.
Peering up at the ceiling, I notice it's made of stained glass. Walking on tiled floor, I make my way to the spiral staircase, which is made of marble. As our footsteps echo throughout the house, I take in the strange smell of what I would indicate as pastries.
Wyatt right behind me, we make our way to the second floor. When we reach the second level, a new part of the mansion unfolds. Completely unlike the first floor, this floor is one of Colten's sense of style.
With red as blood walls and painted white wooden doors, this corridor was designed to look exactly like a regular home.
Faint voices could be heard from a room down the hall, and Wyatt and I make our way to the end of the corridor.
As we walked down the teenage style hallway, I took notice of the designs of the doorknobs. Each doorknob was a different design. From dragons to dogs, the possibilities are endless.
We reached the door, and I could make out Umber and Colten's voices talking. Opening the door, Wyatt and I greeted them with a hello.
"So, what exactly are we going to talk about?" Colten begins, desperately trying to shun the silence away.
Starting the conversation, Wyatt starts off with the dreaded topic of the day, "How do you guys think you did on the exams?"
"I did absolutely wonderful!" Umber jokes, chuckling.
We all laugh, the silence melting away from before.
"Seriously though, how did you guys do?" Wyatt continues, once again serious.
"I'm pretty sure we all did fine." I reassure.
"No shit, Sherlock." Umber says in complete hilarity.
We all break down laughing, forgetting the burden of seriousness in the room, and for the first time that night, we have a smooth discussion about nothing in particular.

An hour had passed by, two, before we decide to head downstairs for a snack. Colten grabs a pizza box from the fridge, and sets it down for us to serve ourselves dinner.
We all eat in comfortable silence, consuming the greasy food in peace. I glance at the clock, which reads: 8:45. My thoughts gather in clumps, my brain reminding me, thats my queue.
My curfew is quite early for most, being at 9:00. My mom, the unnecessarily overprotective, can be very annoying at times.
Slightly shaking my head to abandon my thoughts to reality, I get up from my chair and clean up my plate. I notice that everyone's done with their food, waiting for someone to speak.
"I should probably go, my mom is pretty strict about curfew." I explain, unhappy about my early leave.
They all say goodbye, with the exception of Colten's parents, and I make my way to the door.
Before I leave, I notice I had left my purse in Colten's room. I walk back to my friends, which all seem to know why I back. They all smirk at me, and I smile. I'm always the forgetful one.
"What did you leave this time, Courtney?" Colten asks, volunteering to get my forgotten item.
"My purse. It's in your room." I answer.
"Alright, I'll be right back with your purse." He says.
We wait a couple of minutes, unsure of what to do. I grab a glass from a cupboard and fill it with some water. When I finish the glass, I walk back to my friends, only to be surprised that my phone is in Colten's hand ready to be given to me as well as my purse.
"Thanks."
As my phone transitions from Colten's hand to mine, a blocked number pops up on my screen.
Wyatt, Umber, and Colten look up at me as my phone burst to life. The minute my phone began to ring, was the minute my life, along with my friends' lives, turned upside down.
I could remember thinking, who the hell could that be? But, without a second thought, I picked up the call. Maybe I should have left my phone alone and continued on with my life, but I didn't because I was stubborn.
Not only that though, I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I could tell that it was not like a robo-call or prank call. As I put the call on speaker, I could make out a voice, a woman's voice, and the message she said turned my blood to ice, and my heart nearly stopped.
I can still remember her exact words, they still haunt me to this day, and will continue to haunt me for the rest of my life. It was a warning: "You have one week until the end of the universe begins. One week until the new universe awakens." And just like that, my whole life got a whole new level of trauma.
