You couldn't have gotten to the hospital faster. A nurse met you as you ran in.
"(y/f/n) (y/l/n)?" The nurse asked.
"Yes," you huffed.
She led you to Mark's room. But, before you could go in, the doctor stopped you.
He placed an arm on your shoulder and looked at you sympathetically. "Mark suffered terrible injuries after a reported intoxicated driver hit him. After the driver crashed into him, the glass in his car broke and scratched his whole body. One of his lungs stopped working, and he has a severe concussion. I'm so sorry, but I don't think he's going to make it."
After the doctor let you in, you were terrified by what you saw. Mark was covered in scratches and bruises. He was hooked up to several tubes, and he was as pale as a ghost. You could barely stand to see him like this. When he saw you, he seemed to perk up. "(y/n)..." he croaked.
"You struggled to breath through tears. "Mark, d-don't worry. You're gonna be fine. Y-you'll make it through this!"
He tried to reach for your hand, but he was so weak, he was barely able to move his fingers. You gently took his hand, "Mark, I-I want you to know how much I care about you. I knew I loved you from the day we met. Normally, I don't like talking to people, and you know that. But Mark, you were different. You made me want to do nothing more than talk to you when you smiled at me in the park. You're the best and most important part of my life."
You struggled to say what you always wanted to as you smiled through tears, "Mark, I...I love you."
Before Mark's body went lifeless and you threw yourself over him in sobs, you could swear you saw him smile.
