Internet Kids Never Sleep :Short Story

A divorce? You've got to be kidding me. This is not happening! When I got home that day I never would've expected what would happen. As I pulled up I was super excited......it was the first day of summer! When I got out of my car I skipped up the steps and walked through the open door. Right as I walked through my parents called for me to come into the living room to talk. As I came into view they got serious.

"What is going on? I wondered as dark thoughts clouded my mind. I pushed the thoughts away as my dad began to speak.

"Tyler," my dad started " well, your mother and I are getting a divorce." My knees buckled and I fell to the floor in shock. As they rushed towards me asking if I was okay. Light faded out as black took over.

All of a sudden I started to fly! I soared above the clouds and then started coughing because there's...no..air in space I thought panicked. I started to fall and just before I landed I woke up coughing and sputtering. My parents rushed to my bedside and started to ask if I was okay. Just then everything flooded back to me the divorce. I looked at both of them and sat up.

"Why are you doing this?" I stated as they look at each other before replying. I don't wait because they take too long. I get out of bed and grab my bag I had packed earlier because I was going on a trip. Tearing out of the house with watery eyes trying to escape the wreckage that was supposed to be my family. All I thought was how their marriage fell apart, all was fine that I could tell. I sprinted across the lawn towards the car, not knowing what would follow.

Driving is a difficult task on its own, let alone for days. It was also hard if you didn't know where you were going, but I did. To the only person who wouldn't get me down even further, Connor. After I finally got to LA I texted my parents that I wasn't coming home and turned my phone off. I texted Connor his address.

(C=Connor T=Tyler)

T: Hey in LA is it ok if I come down and stay for a bit?

C: Yeah when u comin down?

T: I'm coming down today sorry if it's short notice

C: No it's fine come by around 4:00

After I sent that last text I looked at the time it was two o'clock and I was thirty minutes away from his house so I started driving. As I got into town I was getting hungry and stopped at McDonalds to get a burger. As I continued driving I got a call from my dad. I answered the phone to see what he wanted.

"Boy you better get back home right now!" my dad bellowed into the phone. I held the phone away from my ear, so I wouldn't become deaf. Then I could hear my mom grab the phone and yell at my dad, "This is why we are getting a divorce Fred! You always get drunk and do stupid things!" I could hear the anger and hate dripping from her voice. She spoke softly into the phone as she talked to me. The sudden mood change was obvious when she talked to me, but I didn't mention anything about what I heard.

"Tyler, sweety," mom started. "You need to come home."

"Okay mom I'm sorry." I said into the phone still driving to Connor's house. "What? really?"

" No mom I'm joking I'm not coming home." I state as I arrive

" Bye mom." I end the call. I get out of my car and grab my small amount of things I had grabbed before rushing out of the house, plus the blanket and pillow I bought at Walmart. As I walk towards the house I text Connor to let him now I'm here. Just as I get to the door Connor rushes to answer it.

"Hey Tyler good to have you in Cali!" Connor gushes.

"Heh thanks for letting me crash here on short notice." I say.
