One by one, I watch the promises break

One by one, the tears roll down my face

You caught me, kept me in a gilded cage

Now I watch my life move, page by page

They say chapters unfold like leaves on a tree

But all I see in this broken place is me

This heart of mine is breaking,

And now my knees are shaking

I watch you throw my heart away

Let this be the end, I pray

But its just the biggest nightmare

And in the starring role is me

Let me wake up, let this be a dream

The pain I'm feeling's gonna make me scream

They say a spirit can't be broken

But surely my heart is a token

of how everything they say is wrong

Now I watch you walk away

I'm just a toy with which to play

You've had your fun and

Now you're done

Will you ever get to see

Just how much you meant to me?

The nights I worried, thinking of you

And now you simply say we're through

What? No earthquakes? No floods of fire?

Are you the only one who gets their heart's desire?

And perhaps the greatest irony

That ever a mortal man did see

Is that, in the newfound light of day, the earth bursts into song.
