Bryce woke up to the chilling sound of a girls scream. A scream so full of fear he was momentarily frozen. He jumped out of his bed and ran to the window and looked out. All he could see was the wind playing tug of war with the trees and the grass swaying peacefully in the pasture. He craned his neck out towards his only neighbors who live a quarter mile away.
He didn't know them very well but be knew they had a girl around his age and a bunch of dogs.
He saw light coming from the kitchen and a shadow moving in there. He hesitated. What if it was just his dream? He decided to just call them to make sure.
He wished his parents were home so they could take care of it but they had went on a small vacation and left him and the old country house alone together.
Well better safe than sorry. He decided and sighed .Looking on the counter for the notebook with his mothers had written all her contacts in, Bryce suddenly felt very conscious of the fact he was home alone in the middle of nowhere. He felt a chill race down his spine as he reached for the old home phone on the wall.
He dialed the number and sat down on the stool by the counter.
The phone rang once before it was picked up.
"Hello, this is bryce Miller, I heard a scream and I was just making sure your all right." Bryce quickly said in the phone.
He heard ragged breathing as if someone was holding something very heavy. He waited a moment before questioning the person on the other end of the call.
"Um hello? Are you alright?" Brcye furrowed his brows. Something was not right..
"Yes, go back to sleep and turn your bedroom light off when your not in there." He heard a muffled girls scream as if she was being smothered as the phone clicked off and Brcye stood, unable to move.
He dialed 911 as he realized his bedroom was on the side of the house not facing the neighbors.
The operator picked up just in time to hear a strangld cry.
