------------------------------------------

I ran across the battlefield, dodging bullets and explosions left and right. Screams, yells, gunfire, and large explosions was all I could hear as I slid behind a large rock, blindly spraying bullets towards the enemies area. I heard another yell from where I shot, assuming I'd got someone. I breathed heavily and leaned against the rock. I checked my surroundings, spotting some of my fellow soldiers retreating a bit, still shooting. I glanced around the rock, the enemy firing rapidly at us. A bullet hit my rock, barely missing my face.

I gasped and reeled backwards, eyes wide in fear. 'That was too close!' Gathering up some courage, I grabbed my gun and sprinted out. I shot randomly, managing to hit a few people and barely dodging some bullets shot back my way. I dived behind another rock, reloading my gun. My eyes widened in fear as I noticed I had no more ammo. If I were to try to get some more I'd have to run in plain sight for quite a distance. I took a deep breath and peeked around.

I might be able to make it if I run fast enough. I'd die if I stayed here so I had no other choice. I prepared myself to run and after a few calming breaths, took off sprinted across the warzone. I dodged so many projectiles that I wondered how they could reload so fast. It was like trying to dodge rain, impossible, unless your me who was an expert at making my way around, underneath, and above things. I almost reached the safe area when an incoming bullet I hadn't noticed plunged into my right abdomen, causing me to tumble to the ground. My yellow shirt was turning an orange-red fast.

I crawled into a nearby ditch, holding my rapidly bleeding wound. It wasn't too serious besides the amount of blood I was losing. I could still make it if I tried hard enough. Heaving myself off the dirty ground I steadied myself and scanned the area. If I ran to my right I could possible make it. Using all my strength and courage, I rushed forward, jumping out of the ditch. I cringed but continued forward but as soon as I had run only 10 feet, a grenade landed nearby. I looked at it in horror, trying to turn the other way and run but it was too late

It exploded, catching the right side of my face harshly. I screamed in pain and grabbed my face. It burned and hurt more than anything I'd ever felt. Trails of blood and tears ran across my face and hands and my energy rush vanished. I dropped to the ground, the sound of gunfire and explosions fading quickly. I felt my body being dragged and someone shouting my name. I tried to move but my body refused and even the shouts near my ear were rapidly faded away as I passed out.

----------------------------

A beeping sound filled my ears and I groaned in pain as I shifted. Someone shouted something I couldn't understand and I tried to open my eyes. My right eye refused to open but my left blinked rapidly, trying to take in the blurred shapes around me. After some more shouts and my eyes finally adjusting, I noticed I was on a bed in a white room. It looked like a hospital room but different somehow. A lady in a lab coat and glasses looked at me with a big grin. "Aah, Bodil! You're awake!" She exclaimed happily.

I looked to my right, although with much difficulty seeing as how I only had my left eyes open. Two males in lab coats were talking and marking things down on a clipboard. I looked back at the lady. "What happened?" I questioned, my voice a little gravelly sounding.

"Well after you were wounded, one of the other soldiers dragged your body into the safe zone and demanded you were healed. After some screaming and threats, one of the trucks arrived and brought you here. You had a bullet wound, major 7 degree burns to your face and neck, serious bleeding, and I'm sorry to say, you lost your right eye."

I touched the right side of my face gently and felt bandaging there. It felt hard for some reason and I retracted my hand slowly.

The lady spoke up again, "But thanks to some of our best scientists and doctors, we managed to replace your eye."

I stared at her questioningly. "How?"

"Well, here." She handed me a mirror and unwrapped my face. I gasped and covered my mouth with my hand as I took in my appearance. The right side of my face and neck was now a silver and grey metal, small circuits could be seen here and there. My once blue eye was now a glowing, golden color. I touched the cold metal and turned my face a bit. Sadness and anger filled me but I restrained myself. They did save my life after all.

I gave the mirror back and slumped a little. "Your the first to survive this procedure. But don't worry, we've only ever used already dying subjects for this." She said before going towards the other scientists.

I looked around the room with my new eye. Everything had a dull golden color to it but not too much that their original color couldn't be seen. Small text appeared occasionally, I guess identifying things as it listed names of certain tools lying on a metal tray. I tried focusing on something small in a dark corner and was surprised when I zoomed in slightly and could see it perfectly. It was a fallen empty syringe. I tried focusing out the window on the door and managed to make out people walking by. I closed my robotic eye and couldn't see the things I saw before but when I opened it, they were clear as day.

I smirked and grabbed my glasses that they kept on a table next to me, along with my other things, and slipped them on. Maybe this wont be so bad after all.
