"Hayes? What are you-"

"Natalie.. I'm sorry for treating you like you didn't matter. Truth is, you mean the world to me.. will you-"

Hayes gets cut off. Suddenly, I see a familiar flash of blue right behind him..

"Natalie! Hey!"

Hayes POV:

A pang of jealousy hit me like a truck. Why is he here? What kind of a brother does that?

I snapped.

"Seriously? Can't wait till later? We're kind of in the middle of something! I'd *really* appreciate it if you'd come back later."

Natalie stood there with her head down, not knowing what to say. I was so mad at Nash for ruining my plan..

Nash's POV:

"Oh.. uh.. okay. Sorry to bother.. I'll see you guys later? "

Natalie flashed me a smile. I couldn't get enough of it. The way her nose crinkles a little.. the way her eyes squint. I didn't even notice I was staring until she spoke..

"Of course!! We'll see you at the house!"

I shot them both a smile. As I turned around to leave, I caught Hayes' death glare.

Natalie's POV:

What in the world? I think Hayes was about to ask me to be his girlfriend! Say something, Hayes!!

He finally opened his mouth, only to utter one word.

"Um.. "

He was chuckling a little and ran his fingers through his hair. Making Hayes nervous? Now that's not something I'm used to. I'm gonna use this to my advantage.

"Speechless, are we? That's okay, I tend to have that effect on people," I said with a wink.

He rolled his eyes.

"You know, you really do."

Stupid me! I was blushing!

"Oh.. well thanks.. It's getting a little late. I'll talk to you later?"

"No. I'll take you home, come on."

.

.

.

The whole time home was silent. I don't know why it was so awkward.

"Bye, Hayes."

"Goodbye beautiful."

I got out of the car. The only weird thing was.. this wasn't my house.
Above me, bright specks gleamed against the vast darkness. Below, a variety of buildings illuminated my skin. If I had taken a step further, I would've fell off the edge.

But that didn't happen.

A pair of arms wrapped around my waist. Hayes? Was this it? Was he going to continue where we left off earlier? I turned around to a pair of glowing eyes. At this point, I couldn't speak. The air was brisk, looming with hints of his cologne. Before I could say a word, he softly lifted my chin and met his lips with mine. A familiar feeling overwhelmed me with security, passion and joy all at once. After what seemed like an eternity, he pulled away.

"Natalie.. I took you here because I wanted to do this better than I planned earlier today. I come here when I'm hurt, angry or confused- it's the only place that provided me with relief. But then I realized: Whenever I'm with you, I have the same relief I thought I could only receive here. That's why it only made sense to me that I would share a piece of me with you here."

I started to tear up at this point. He makes me feel incredible. There was a moment of silence while he wiped my tears and laughed.

"Baby, please don't cry! I promise this will end happily."

He handed me the same box I was about to open earlier. Inside was a necklace with my name and rose engraved on it.

"The rose symbolizes your beauty prevailing, even in undesirable times. Natalie Anderson," he was on his knees now. "will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?"
