Books had always enthralled Hermoine, she loved the way when she was reading them she was no longer her. Sure, she was The Brightest Wizard of her Age and there was a time she would very much willingly bask in that title, but now it felt more of a responsibility than credit. And she was so tired.

Sometimes, she wondered what if she disappeared. Snapped her fingers and poof. Forever gone. But Hermoine was a smart girl. She knew what could, and what could not happen.

"Granger?" A snobbish voice called out from a distance. She turned only to see Draco Malloy leaning on the door with his arms crossed, a holier-than-thou expression on his face.

"The one and only." She smiled sarcastically, trying not to trip over her words. She was getting better and better at pretending these days. "What can I do for a death eater?"

If Draco was hurt from that statement he hid it well, he let out a whistle and shook his head. "No, it's what I can do for you. Seems to me you've been careless." He replied smoothly, his eyes not once leaving hers.

Hermoine rolled her eyes, "Spit it out Malfoy, I have a test to study for."

He waltzed in and sat next to her, stretching his smile even wider. She could feel his breath on her as the fabric of his attire brushed against hers. She was suddenly aware of the lack of distance between them and stood up.

"Just say what you have to say. No need for dramatics."

"Gosh Granger, always so uptight. Go check your wand and thank me later."

She furrowed her brows and he could not help but find it cute, "What did you do to it?" She demanded as she took a step accusingly towards him. Their height difference was noticeable seeing how Hermoine had to lift her head up to attempt to put on a mask of intimidation.

"Nothing," He said lazily as he walked away with his sense of accomplishment sky high, "I just thought you'd be a blubbering mess if you found out later, although I'd like to see you panicky but only at my own expense. Not someone elses." and with that he had left leaving her starring at the spot he had been at.

She went back to her dorm and indeed, her wand was unresponsive. She scowled. That would be troublesome to fix. Luckily she had discovered it soon, although she would have to spend the night fixing it. No, Draco discovered it. She wanted to shut the voice at the back of her head down, but she could not help but feel as though she owed him an apology. Surely, it could have been him but he had no reason of telling her in advance. Who tells their victim of the damage first? She breathed out and let herself fall onto her bed. Why was she even thinking of him? Why did her break up with Ron left her feeling relieved instead of heartbroken? These were all questions she had trouble answering.

After all, this was the quiet before the storm.
