Matthew didn't understand. He was only 16. How was he supposed to comprehend what was happeneing? He stared straight into the sea green eyes of his reflection. He was looking at himself, but it wasn't him. This Matthew was bloody, and beaten, while the real him was perfectly fine.

"What is happening?" He said aloud."

Chapter One:

The roar of the cafeteria was deafening. Matthew sat at what has been dubbed the "Popular table" in the far right corner of the room. His best friend Clayton Hanson sat directly across from him, and had to shout to be heard over the cries of profanity from across the room.

"I bet Newby will win. The kid can fight for someone everyone thinks is a wimp," Clay stated. Matthew just nodded his head not really caring.

"Hey bro I think I'm going to go. You know... Sam is.. yeah." Tears blurred Matthews vision and he lowered his head so no one would see.

"Dude, I understand. I'll tell the teacher you got sick. It's alright, go see him," He said in a comforting tone.

Matthew rose from his seat and headed toward the door but was pulled back by an arm that seemed to appear out of nowhere.

"Dude, what the hell? I just want to leave!" He cried angrily. He turned his head only to find his science teacher glaring at him.

"Oh? And where exactly do you think you're going to go?" He asked with a sarcastic tone. Matthew tore his arm out of his teachers grip and got close.

"Who looks exactly like me? Who have you not seen in 2 years due to medical complications? Who is dying right now in his bed? My twin brother Samuel Morris. I'm going to see him before its too late for me to say good-bye, sir." He stated with confidence, and fear, because the teacher was actually quite large.

Mr. Rodgers looked at Matthew, suddenly sympathetic.

"Fine. I'll write a note to your teachers and tell them you left." He said quickly walking him to the door.

"Thanks, Mr. Rodgers!" Matthew said running out to his car. He got in, started it, and sped out of the parking lot. Then he heard sirens... It wasn't the cops, it was an ambulance on the other side.

"Not a good day for anyone," he said to himself, and started his car. Matthew pulled out of the parking lot and drove quickly to the hospital that was conviniently nearby. He ran through the lobby but was stopped by the lady at the front desk.

"Uhhmm, sir, You need permission to go see patients." She said slightly annoyed.

"Okay, my brother Sam has cancer. He's looking death in the eyes right now and if I don't see him before he gets taken away from me... I don't know what I'll do with myself." Matthew said, dead serious.

"Uhh, go ahead," she said gingerly.

"Thank you, ma'am." He said and ran down the hall to the elavator. Room 467. Two years ago Samuel was diagnosed with leukemia. He'd ad a bone marrow transplant, but his body rejected it, and it spread quickly. He's been in the hospital for 2 years and Matthew has been there as much as he possibly can. He brings his classwork and does his best to teach him.

Matthew walked up to the door and could hear talking inside so he knocked first. He heard someone say 'come in' so he did.

"Matthew, You should be in school!" his mother said looking at him in anger.

"Get out. You're only here because your son is on his death bed and you have to pay the bills. You don't give two shits about us, and neither did dad. If you would stop wasting your time trying to chase him down maybe you would've got the call that he died last week. The bastard was in jail." Matthew said angrily.

"Matt, stop. It's okay.. Seriously. Just don't do this today." Sam said looking at him. Matt walked over to his bed and sat down next to him as their mother walked out of the room.

"Hey, how's life?" Matt said trying to sound calm.

"Ha, I don't think life likes me very much." Sam said sadly.

"Nah, it's just fed up with dealing with both of us. So it's taking you back to somewhere where they need with you."

"Well, you need me here. I mean seriously, what are you going to do without me? We both know I'm your better half." He said smiling. Matt laughed and replied, "You always were the smartest of us.. I was always the one to bust my ass doing something stupid."

"And there I was bailing you out!"

"Yeah by breaking into the principles office! Real good example there, bro."

They laughed together for a bit until cold hard reality sunk in and they both teared up.

"Just don't get into any trouble okay? I don't want you hurt. I'll be watching you from way the hell up there." He said pointing up.

"I promise you Sam I wo-" Matthew was cut off when the machine's beeping stopped and suddenly many doctors and nurses flooding in quickly.

"I need you to leave son," One said to him guiding him out the door.

Matthew looked through the small window on the door and saw them with the defibulators, his body convulsing, trying to revive him. His vision was cut off when a doctor got in front of the window. He fell to his knees on the floor and his body started to wrack tears streaming down his face and him shouting, "I promise Sam... I promise."
