"Maddi get over here, right now!" Danny, my stepfather screams as soon as I walk in the door. Great what now? I knew not to say anything that could set him off the edge. "Yes daddy?" I said in the sweetest voice I could. "Don't yes daddy me! Get over here!" I walked slowly to my dad who was sitting on the light blue sofa in the den. He was holding a piece of paper. "Tell me what this is about?" He throws the paper in my face. It fell to the ground. I picked it up and read it. A note from my English teacher Mr. Douglas. It read: Dear Mr and Mrs Smith it has come to my attention that your daughter, Maddison has an extraordinary talent. She writes these poems in school and when I read them it's like I'm there with her. Like I feel her emotions. Like I'm there with her in her heart. I was wondering if you would let her participate in the Extraordinary English Talent show? I think she has real potential for a future. I also noticed she is excelling in her English. She reads at a high college level even though she is only in 9th grade. The E.E.T.S, Extraordinary English Talent Show, is next Friday and Saturday at 3:10 to 7:05. Hope to see you there! This is not a requirement, I would just love for her to show her amazing work. Thank you!
I gasped. No way! My dad was glaring at me, tapping his foot and waiting for me to say something. "Well? What is it?" He shouts. I start to cry. "Really Maddi? Are you seriously crying?" He stand up and gets in my face. He never hits me, just yells a lot. " I-I- I'm sorry?" I managed to squeak out. "You should be! I know that you forged this letter. You don't have any real talent, no future. Stop your lying. You are worthless, no wonder you don't have a boy friend yet. Pathetic." He looked me up and down. "Oh wait our too ugly and fat for that." A tear rolls down my cheek and I reach up to wipe it before he notices. His words seem stupid, but they really do hurt.
