It all had happened so fast, I was simply playing with my sister when I had heard a boom, it sounded as if it was the worst thunder you'd ever hear....Boom,Boom,Boom, I looked around the room to see everyone standing as still as possible and looking horrified.....BOOM, my dad quickly looks to my mother then quickly heads upstairs, as soon as I know it my mother was grabbing my arm and whispering to me
"Get your sisters jacket"
I looked to her very confused, this time she repeated it to me very sternly
"Ajla.....Get your sisters jacket now!"
I quickly ran up and grabbed her jacket and mine, I also grabbed a bag and packed my stuffed animals even though I wasn't supposed to I couldn't leave without them..My mother had yelled my name,
"Ajla we need to go!"
I had quickly ran down the stairs and caught up to my mother, sister (Amina) and my father. We were running as fast as we possible could toward the mountains, I tried to yell to my mother
"Whats going on Mama! Im scared, why are we running to nenas (Grandmas) house!"
My mom didn't respond
"Mama!"
I was starting to get angry, but finally she responded,
"You have to be quite, I was hoping this day wouldn't happen, i'll explain to you later!"
We had finally reached my grandmothers house, she quickly rushed us in
"Nena!"
I had said, she had given me the signal to shush.....
"Ajla my love, you're here!"
She whispered to me,
"I am nena what is going on, mama rushed us out and I heard booms and bangs and crashes and.."
She had cut me off
"Calm down Ajla you're safe here...For now"
"For now?!"
Before I could start asking more questions she gave me a Kinder bar. The booms had stopped and it had gotten more peaceful again, I had eaten my Kinder bar.....My mother decided it was time for me to go to sleep but I simply wasn't tired but she insisted and well I tried, she had brought me to my grandmothers room which was the room closest to the staircase so I could hear everything they were talking about, my sister laying next to me was knocked out cold.
"I can't believe the Serbs had attacked"
I heard my mother say,
"I thought it was simply a threat to scare us, we can't stay here forever eventually they're going to find us, we have to go to Tusla!"
"It is way to far"
My grandmother pleaded
"Hey, I like that idea, we have family there, it is too far from Serbia for the Serbs to attack"
My father spit back
"Okay we'll leave in the morning, but we have to tell Ajla she already knows something is going on"
"We can't"
My mother said,
I was then boiling with anger, why would the Serbians attack us! We did nothing wrong!?
