The world has changed over the past five years. People are out celebrating the prosperous time. The exploding fireworks, shooting stars, and the documenting of history are now only pastimes. Most people of the world are happier than they can ever remember in this age, all due to one event. Do they care how it happened, or that it happened? Do they care who was involved in the story, or the end result? The answers vary.

Monsters in our world don’t feel emotions. They simply want to take all we know and destroy it. All comfort, gone. They are selfish. They’ll soak up the life and the love and take it for themselves. They leave a path of destruction behind. They rejoice in the sadness, the heart-break that is formed by their actions. Unlike the stories and movies, usually nobody can stop them. So they continue to go on.

What is life? What is love? What is sadness? I have come to tell you that I know all three. Life is more than breathing air and soaking up the sun. It is precious and should be lived with no regrets. But who can get that? Only a few. Love is life. Once you have found it you will never be able to let go. It gives you air and hope when all else is lost; transforms doubt into faith, and darkness to light. And sadness? Well, there is nothing more devastating than staring into the lifeless eyes of your own mother,  father, and all your best friends as I have done. Those are moments I will never forget; it haunts me everywhere I go. It is something I wish upon no one. Not even the one that caused it.

I want to tell you a story. This is a story of how one girl wanted perfection. A story of friendship, rivalry, comedy, adventure, sadness, happiness, life, death, and of course, love, the greatest magic of all.

I lifted my hands and slowly twirl, savoring the sound of music. The crowd goes wild. They cheer and stomp their feet. The flames whirl around me, seeming to never harm, only wanting to play. But I knew better, I knew that people get hurt while playing with fire. They always do. Just like Jake.

No. None of that tonight. Just relax and dance. Still, a small voice in my head warns me to be careful, don’t end up like him. And then I woke up.
