I drove moaning and groaning Dylan back home, worrying a little too much about Heller.
"He's such an asshole."
"You punched him first."
"Who's side are you on?!"
I laughed and he pouted. We pulled up to his house and I helped him out of the car as if he was a senior.
"Hey! Wisc!" I looked over to see a beaming Denton, but his smile faltered when his gaze fell upon Dylan. "Whoa, man, what happened to you?"
Dylan didn't miss a beat to complain. "Let me tell you, I nearly died. I could see the light and heard angels singing."
"Dude," Denton said in awe. I rolled my eyes as they talked about how brave Dylan was, and walked in the house.
"DYLAN WHY IS YOUR GRADE AN- oh, hey, sweetie."
I smiled to the blonde. "Hey! Um, so Dylan got in a fight, and-"
"WHAT?!" She ran to the door and threw it open, rushing up to Dylan. "My poor baby! Who did this to you?!" She kissed him all over and inspected him thoroughly.
"I'm fine, Ma!"
"No you're not! Look at you!"
"Ma!"
"I'll kill whoever did this to you!"
"Ma! I'm fine!"
They continued bickering as I stood there awkwardly. Denton's perfect smile caught my attention though, and his chocolate eyes met mine. He waved me over.
"So, you ready to take me up on my offer?"
"What?"
"Hanging out?"
"Oh! Yeah," I laughed awkwardly.
"How's tomorrow?"
I was ecstatic. "Perfect!" I said a little too eagerly. He laughed, though. Yes, all according to the plan.
"Okay I'll meet up with you after school."
"Okay." I tried not to swoon.
He waved goodbye and I went to my car, floating on a cloud.
"What's the principal's number?!"
"MA!"
