Blue glistening waters sung the calm songs of peace as the warm air brushed the surface of the relaxing waves. Birds chirped as they flew following the rhythm of the air. It was surreal. It was almost as If I had entered Utopia- the one place I so longingly wished to set my eyes upon. Now, I was almost here. A loud horn bellowed through the air as the ship set sail. Was I dreaming? I hope not.

The bow of the ship soon began to face the endless ocean as the weeping people of the tropical town waved farewell from the drenched docks to the passengers of the ship, of which I was one. Feelings of excitement grew from my chest to the corners of my scarlet lips, resulting in a sincere smile on my face, highlighting the rest of my features. Before directing my attention back onto the vast blueness, I spotted the tender faces of my family, which I couldn't help but notice wore an evident tint of melancholy. Goodbye Lisbon.

My impatience grew more and more the further away we got from my beloved hometown. My family had reserved this opportunity to ride this ship as a chance for me to go abroad and discover the unseen. Everything was alien. From the wooden floor to the silk sails on each side of the deck, I knew nothing. Never in my life had I previously encountered such abnormal products which possessed just as abnormal uses. I pinched myself for a brief reality check. The neurological signal that passed through my frail arm, causing a slight whimper to escape my lips, signified that I was indeed awake, in full senses. Completely oblivious to the following events...

With a curious mind, I skipped past the various cabins that were situated on the left wing of the grand dory. Next was the right wing. Hordes of other passengers surrounded a small section of the ship. My guess was that the cafeteria was allocated there. With a grumbling stomach, I decided to join the others in seeking for a snack, if not a meal.

Munching down on the salad I was privileged enough to identify, I indulged in the moment and let the spinach moisten the inside of my mouth with the jaw dropping flavours that bounced off each dark, green leaf as they lay upon my tongue. Pure paradise. Nothing more, nothing less. My first proper meal in a while.

Whilst I focused on my salad, I missed the sudden movement from beneath the ship, causing a slight jolt. Several minutes later, a crying voice could be heard from the deck. As I peeked outside, a cumulonimbus could be spotted from the far right of the barge. Within a millisecond, I felt my trembling hands drop the food as my eyes dilated. We were in trouble. With a roar of thunder, people were screaming and running, unaware of what to do. It felt like a thousand years before I came back to consciousness from the sudden realisation that a cyclone would be attacking us within a matter of minutes.

Panic grew in my voice box as I attempted to calm everyone down, but to no avail. Time was of the essence. Each second slowly passing by.

It was too late. My legs carried me to my cabin as I desperately delved for a sturdy table to seek habitude under. As I curled into a ball, a sudden impact of water splashed open the windows, in a result of the ship uncontrollably shaking, causing some to fly off the boat and into the deep swirling waters; I awaited my turn, closing my eyes tightly. A white light engulfed me. Distinct memories flew by my mind; the lively faces of my dear family, now only a recollection to me. I was a memory – only a mere thought in the back of the minds of those who once knew me.

This was the end.
