why
why do we delve so deeply
into human life
our whole lives
we have been told
that our emotions
are under our control
that we can change
who we are
but now we learn
that none of this
is under our control
that our looks are determined
by sequences of letters
that love in nothing
but a hormone
that our moments are ticking by
because of something called telomeres
and now we learn
that control is an illusion
right at our fingertips
but untouchable
they tell us control
is something constant
then throw us
out into a world
where our lives
are anything but
under our control
