It would be a cold day in hell when she told her peers about her experience during her work at her old watchpoint. The ice queen herself would avoid any topic of the life threatening years she spent asleep in her chamber. Ice cold to the touch, waking up to see her friends and family dead, the guilt of their deaths on her.
She would say to herself she didn't deserve the second chance life gave her. All of those other men and women could have had children and grandchildren to look towards. Why did the angle of life choose her instead of them? She wished to have given her chance to one of the others. The old father figure of the team, he had triplet grandkids on their way. Or the couple for dorm 2b. They had a child on their way also.
She spent a decade of her life asleep. Her life before her job flashed before her eyes and died with her identity. People forgot she existed, alive, or was born. Her parents moved on from their daughter's 'death' and grew old. Any source of her cousins, uncles, or aunts was unknown or unclear. Was she the last of her family?
After a week of being found. She was taken to the medical bay where a young doctor kept her alive. Her inner body frozen from the ice that invaded her body. Her body slowly defrosted and started to work on its own. Her lungs now easily breathed without help, her eyes started to work with her glasses again.
But after every single test of wellness. She slowly developed insomnia, as her fear of missing any more of her life would kill her. She would stay up in the day by the cup of coffee after another. Boba tea here and there with nutritional values in it but her main diet was coffee. Her once plump and round body become a skinny and lifeless heap of bones and blood. Her need to live decreased every night as she would stare out into the dark night of the new watchpoint. She would hear noises of the others making plans, having laughs and drinks, living a life worth while.
Person after the person tried to fix her pain. Sleep pills, anti-depression medication, slipping weight gain pills in her drinks. Nothing seemed to work for the women. Person after person gave up on her. They would say that she was a tough code. That she was unfixable. That she wouldn't live a day pass 45. She didn't care what they said. She knew her opinion mattered the most. She would lie to herself while looking in a mirror while saying 'I'm fine'. She learned to dislike anything her body did. The way her bones would look under her skin made her feel dead. The way she would tiredly talk would annoy her horribly. The way her steps in her boots would echo and make loud noises would make her wish she wasn't there.
Her legs started a collection of scars and cuts as her depression darkened. Her eyes dulled from a honey-brown color to a dark brown color. Her eyes bloodshot as her need to not sleep dulled her. Her once happy and lively personality died when she saw her dead co-workers in their chambers.
Only she knows what it's like to wake up and be all happy, only to face the reality sitting in front of you. Watching it stare at you with venomous truth. Mei hated that truth so much she snapped the moment she realized she shouldn't be alive.
Mei needed a person. She needed a friend who would shatter the guards around her heart and head and help her. She failed to let those in, and only one explosive person could get through her icy exterior to the Mei who used to play in the snow and be happy. Little did she know, this person would be coming to her every soon.
