I was walking along the shore. My feet playing with the waves that crashes on. I love sunsets. I close my eyes and felt the breeze but suddenly, two manly arms wrapped around me.
I froze, my heartbeat was skipping a beat with every second.
"I miss you Cara." A voice whispered to my ears.
That voice. I knew that voice too well. Ever since I was 10 I knew him.
That voice I love for so many years but also cause me so many tears.
Finally having the strength to move, I twisted on my heels and face him. I found his eyes, staring right into my soul.
"I miss you so much." He repeated.
I tried to ignore him, "How's Ronnie?" I asked him trying to change the topic.
Marco smiled a bit at the mention of his younger brother's name, "He's fine." The smile faded from his lips as he seek for my eyes once again. "I miss you." He said, voice filled with so much emotions.
I let go my breath I didn't know I was holding. I manage to form a weak smile. "I miss you too Marco, but you know we can't be together, not anymore."
His face clearly saddened. He looked down, his eyes caught sight of my hand. "You're wearing that ring." Marco said, his voice in a mixture of regret and disbelief. He was in pain.
I am too.
I simply nodded, I lifted my hand and stare at the ring I'm wearing. It's a simple white gold ring with little diamonds around it. Simple and perfect.
Tears suddenly form on the corner of my eyes. "This ring is suppose to be a symbol of love." I said still staring at the ring. "But now, this is just a daily reminder that you and I can no longer be together." A tear manage to escape as the last word left my mouth.
I could feel the pain from the past starting to refresh.
"I'm sorry baby, I didn't mean to hurt you." He said running a thumb over my cheek to wipe a tear. "I love you."
His words echoed in my head causing my tears to trail down my cheeks. I couldn't stop crying.
"I love you too." I said, my voice about to crack. "-a lot Marco. I love you that it hurts so much." I said finally meeting his eyes. His face mirrored the expression of mine, full of regrets. "You need to stop doing this."
"But baby-"
"No. I have to move on." I said looking at the ring on my finger once again, convincing myself.
Silence.
I heard him let go of his breath, "Just-- please don't forget me baby." Marco said, pain clear in his voice.
I smiled a bit, "You know I can't, even if I try."
"Do you want this to be the last time?" He asked in a voice just a little above whisper.
No. I don't want to. God knows I want to spend my whole life with you. But it can't be. I failed to meet his eyes, I simply nodded in reply.
"Then listen to me first. Loot at me baby. I want to tell you things." He said lifting my face with his hand to meet his.
His eyes twinkled as it stared to mine. His look was filled with love and regret. "Baby, I love you so much. I never knew that I would lose you this way. I'm sorry.--"
Tears are forming once again.
"--I just want to have you in my life forever. Even in another life, I'll always chose to love you. Only you Cara." He slowly inched closer to my face and stopped when his face were just a breath away from mine.
Tears are trailing down my cheeks, my chest tightening with feelings.
"The look on your face when you saw that ring, I could never forget.--" Marco continued as if reminiscing.
"-- That's why I can't just accept that a guy will stole that happiness from you."
"I don't need the damn ring, I need you. YOU." I whisper shouted.
He smiled, "I'm sorry baby. Remember this, its not your fault. What happened to me and my brother was an accident. The truck lose brake and hit us. It was my decision to chase that snatcher. So don't ever blame yourself for what happened." He planted a kiss on my forehead, followed by another on my nose.
Marco lowered his lips about to meet mine. "I'm sorry baby, I never know that it would cost my life." He said before closing the distance between us.
I closed my eyes and anticipated the feeling of his lips on mine but only a gush of wind came. I opened up my eyes and met the reality once again.
He's gone.
