5ft. Deep Blunder

Troublesome, this is really troublesome.

“Bakit ako?” I asked with a huff. “Hindi naman ako member ng student council.” I added, trying to wriggle my way out of this task.

Milena glared at me, slamming all the books she is carrying into my table creating a loud noise. “Cause you’re my friend and—” she trailed off looking at Runa who was grinning like a maniac while writing. Napailing na lang ako sa kanya. Writers and their vivid and wild imaginations that I can never get. I think she’s already preparing another script for the drama club to perform. Sana lang hindi ako kasama sa characters niya this time, I don’t want to be freaking casted as a tree again or worse baka mamaya kabayo na ng Prinsensa ang role ko. Ibang klase pa naman story niya, yung twist pang out of this world. “—it’s not like I can ask Runa to do it.”

“Why not?” tanung ko sa kanya kahit alam ko naman na sagot. She gave me a look saying: ‘Are you seriously asking me that?’ Yeah. Runa can be a little bit too much sometimes. I’m sure ayaw lang ni Milena ng another re-do ng unforgettable scene na ginawa ni Runa last year. Talk of the campus na naman siya bukas kapag nagkataon, not that she cares.

Ganito kasi yun, last time Milena ask her to do some equipment check on the basketball club which by the way has a number of good-looking guys. Anong ginawa niya? She made a fool at herself. Not only that, she even blurted out words like: ‘Oh. I’m just doing an equipment check. Don’t mind me. I’m not drooling at your handsome faces and I’m definitely not looking at how your muscles contract when you do warm-up exercises. Just continue your practice.’ Binasagan tuloy siyang weird at creepy.

“Anong ginagawa ng iba?” Anong silbi na naging member sila ng student council kung hindi naman sila mauutusan. Ano sila palamuti?

“Cause it’s the swimming club you’re going to check.”

I gave her a questioning look, asking her to explain it further in a way I will understand. Nag-aaway na sila and it’s already giving me a headache. Ilang araw na din nila akong ginugulo.”

And so I’m the perfect solution. “So ako ang inutusan mo since I won’t make a fuss about them?” I asked voicing out my thought.

“Parang ganun na nga.”

Inirapan ko lang siya, still on the I’m not going to do it side. She suddenly grew quiet. I thought she was about to give up when her face suddenly lights up like the first of January. She gave a look that I know so well— the look that says she's scheming something.

“Ano gagawin mo ba or hindi or should I call—” She says, smirking at me evilly at inalabas ang cellphone niya. I told you so. I think she's planning on using Prince Charming in these situation.

That’s the student council President for you: witty. But still... her way of dealing with things is quite underhanded.

“Fine! Gagawin ko na po Madam President.” I said in mocking tone, smiling oh-so sweetly at her. There goes my plan in going home early.  Akala ko I can do some binge watching today but this came up.

“What do I have to check in there?” Wala naman na akong choice. So might as well do this ng matapos na. You just have to do, what you gotta do ika-nga.

“Nawawala na kasi yung gamit ng mga members. Nagrereklamo din sila dahil hindi sila makapag-concentrate sa practice due to interruptions. Check mo lang situation nila.” Special treatment naman tong swimming club.
