The darkness did not allow for much to be seen. Zeke sat precariously on the edge of a steel platform. They had come for him. They had come for him and his sister in the middle of the night. Those eye-less freaks snatched them up, messed with their brains, and then dumped them in the ‘playhouse’. Zeke and Leanne were left as snacks for the alien’s pets. They had managed to get away but now… Zeke sat. He sat, unknowingly, close to the edge. His mind was at war.
Gabriel: “Go back Zeke. There was a chute back there. You can save your sister.”
Rafael: “Be quiet you idiotic nun! Zeke, why go back when the exit is right down there?”
A soft glow had been staring at Zeke. It was a small ramp that led to what looked like grass and silky moonlight. The florescent glow that meant freedom and home.
Gabriel: “It could be a trap. Take your eyes off the exit for once and watch the spikes below.”
Ravenous teeth. They were waiting to kill. Hiding in the shadows in the hope of finding easy prey.
Gabriel: “You’ll be putting your sister’s life in danger by trying to jump over that.”
Rafael: “What if you kill her? Your life is what matters most. You and only you matter.”
Gabriel: “Stop that! He won’t leave without his sister and that’s final!”
Rafael: “Alright. You want him to make a choice? I’ll help him.”
Zeke unconsciously stood up, grabbed Leanne and walked to the edge. There he hung her limp body over the pool of death.
Gabriel: “You dirty little fiend!! Stop controlling him! He needs to make up his own mind!”
Rafael: “He is. He’s letting me control him. And now, he is going to get rid of some dead weight…”
“Enough!!!” Zeke final broke out of daze and sat down again, this time with Leanne in his lap. His sister was ice-cold in his arms. Blood slowly dripped out of her mouth and down her nightgown.
“You both are driving me insane!” Zeke turned his sister around so that she faced him.
“What should I do Leanne? Go back or go forward?” Leanne’s eyes were dulling and her breath was hoarse.
Rafael: “Go forward. It’s the only way.”
“Leanne, I’ll save you. We’ll both go home to mom and dad.” Leanne closed her eyes and coughed slightly.
“What do I do now?” The voices left, Leanne was dying, and Zeke was paralyzed with indecision.
What would he do now?
