Luis woke up in a small room with a bed, a dresser cabinet, and a desk with a lamp. He looked around the room, feeling confused and scared. "Where am I...?" He said. He then turned his gaze down at his hands and wondered, "Who am I?" Luis realized that he had no memory of what happened or who he was before.
He stood up from the bed and walked towards the door. Before he could place his hand on the door handle, a young dark-haired man with a lab coat and brown eyes opened the door to his room. He was formally dressed under the lab coat and he smiled at him. "Hello Luis. My name is Dr. Maxwell, and I'm here to show you around the place and check on your health afterwards." He now knew his name was Luis.

Lwas still confused and stared at him.  "Where am I? What is this place? Who am I?" He blurted his questions quickly and Dr. Maxwell realized what was wrong. "That is also what I'm here to talk to you about. But first, come with me so I can show you around the building, which is called Rosmary's Home for Children and Teens."

Dr. Maxwell lead Luis to the different facilities like the bathrooms and kitchen areas, then lead him to his medical office so he could do his first check up on him. He removed some of his blood and took his temperature along with his weight. "You're doing pretty well health wise, but you are lacking a bit of foods since your weight is low at your age. And by the fact that you don't remembering anything, then it may be from the amnesia from the tragedy that occurred." Luis sat there in silence and thought about the last thing he said. What does he mean by tragedy? He wanted to ask, but he was afraid of what might happen.

Somehow, Maxwell knew what he was thinking then sat next to the chair Luis was in. "I might as well tell you so you won't hurt yourself trying to figure it out. Yesterday at around 6 PM, there was a fire near Guymon Street and we don't know what caused it. The police was called by witnesses near the area and so they found you unconscious under a fallen beam with your home and parents burnt to ashes. I'm so sorry that happened to you, Luis." The man's eyes were sincere, and Luis knew he can be trusted.

"Thank you for letting me know, Dr. Maxwell." he said. "If you want to know something about me, I lost my parents from a fiery car crash when I was 11, but 10 years later I'm helping other kids who have been through a similar as mine." Maxwell smiled at him, then he stood up. "I'm done with your check up today. You can go back to your room or look around some more if you'd like, Luis."

In the silence of his own room, Luis thought about what he heard. His parents have died in a fire and yet he survived. The police knew nothing about who or what caused it, but he didn't want to know even if they did. This was his new home, and Luis wasn't sure if he would fit in to the place. After an hour, they called them in for lunch and Luis went out but decided not to eat. He sat at a table by himself near the corner of the room and stared at the table.

"Are you feeling okay?" A young voice broke his thought process and he looked up to see girl about his age with blonde hair and gray eyes. She was wearing a blue shirt and black jeans along with a red scarf around her neck. "Um, yeah. I'm feeling okay." He replied. The girl sat down in a chair next to him and she smiled faintly. "My name is Leah. What's yours?" She asked him. "It's Luis. Nice to meet you, Leah."

In just a half an hour of talking and getting to know each other a little, she and Luis became friends from that point on. Leah's parents went missing at sea one day and so Leah was sent to Rosemary's since she couldn't be taken care of by any family members. She was kind and funny, making Luis laugh every once in a while during the conversation. "And so I don't know where I came from or who I was besides learning about what happened yesterday." Luis told her after explaining that he didn't know anything about himself. "I'm so sorry about your parents death, Luis. Also, I actually came here last week so I'm still getting used to this place." She said.

Soon lunch ended and Leah stood up. "It was great talking to you, Luis. I hope we can talk again tomorrow." She smiled at him and he smiled back. "Me too. I should be heading back to my room, but I'll be here so we can talk again." He walked away from her and waved at her as she waved back. He never thought he would make a friend like her.

Luis entered his room and felt tired the second he walked through the door. Instead of laying down on his bed normally, he jumped into bed without switching his clothes out. The feeling never left him while he slept, and he smiled knowing that things will get better for him.
