"the good news is, her wrist is not broken" the doctor says.
we all let out a breath of relief, but only to suck it back in when he speaks again. "but it is horribly dislocated"
"how horribly?" i ask.
"i will have the nurses come in to bring you some numbing medicine, then i will have to relocate it. i will give you a brace or splint, your choice, so you won't be able to move it, but it'll heal. since it is horribly dislocated it will take almost a month to heal, but since i am relocating it it won't be as uncomforatable"
he walks out of the room and i hear him talking to one of the nurses. i sigh. he didn't even answer my question.
"can i see it again?" cameron asks.
i look up and nod. holding my hand out he gently grabs it and sets it in his hand. he sits next to me on the hospital bed, he puts my hand on his leg and leaves it there just staring at it.
"i'm so sorry" he says.
"it's okay"
he looks at me and his eyes say it all.
a nurse in a pale blue uniform comes in with a small box in her hands. when she opens it i tense up and i'm guessing cameron noticed because he snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me to his side.
the nurse takes the tube with numbing medicine with the needle attatched out of the box. she takes the cap off and sets it down. ripping open a small packet she rubs the alchohal wipe on my wrist. i squeeze my eyes shut knowing what's going to happen next. "try not to move, we don't want to have to do it again" she says.
i nod and find cameron's hand, squeezing it with my good hand. when i feel the needle graze my skin i squeeze his hand tighter, making it turn a different color. she pushes it in my skin and i yelp.
"sorry sweetie. bare with me here, just two more seconds" she says.
i nod slightly and let out a shaky breath. i feel her pull the needle out of my wrist and i let out a sigh of relief.
soon i can't feel my hand and the doctor comes back in. "is it numb?" he asks.
"yeah" i nod.
"great, let's get started"
"great" i say sarcastically.
"this may tingle, since it's numb. it will feel really weird. but don't move or pull away cause things can get a lot worse"
"okay" i nod.
"here we go" he grabs my wrist. "3..2..1" he snaps my wrist. i fght the urge to move, so i scream instead.
cameron's grip on my waist tightens and i see shawn's worried expression from across the room. letting out a shaky breath i look down at my wrist to see it back in place. "you're going to be wearing it for quite a while, so would you like a rubber brace, which people say is a lot more comforatable, or would you like the soft fabric splint? or you could have a rock hard cast. your choice"
"umm.. can i see the choices?"
"of course" he walks out of the room.
and a few minutes later he comes back with the choices he told me about.
"can i try them on?" i ask.
"sure. just be careful"
i nod and pick up the rubber one. the doctor helps me slide it onto my wrist. it feels good, not hard but firm. i can't move my wrist but it doesn't feel like i'm injured.
