Lucifer... Upon reading the name, Samaels eyes flooded with fear. The parchment trembled in his hands.
"Samael, what's wrong" Lord Seraph questioned, with a worried expression staining his round wrinkled face.
"L-Lucifer" Samael stuttered. Lucifer was the Dark Lord. Despised and feared by all, he lived in the heart of Mogul, a country enslaved in evil.
"What do you mean, boy?" Suzie asked suspiciously.
"He shall be called Samael. He shall be the Seventh Son of Lucifer, a Seventh Son" Samael's voice was barely above a whisper. "He shall be Keeper of Secrets" Samael continued "An Outcast, despised by all. He cannot escape his fate..."
A few gasps escaped the mouths of the maids and duchesses and they stared in horror at Lucifer's birthday wishes.
"Lilley-May, take Samael to his chambers" Lord Seraph announced out of the silence. "We have... uh... important matters to discuss"
The little girl took Samaels hand and led him away from the Throne Room.
"Come on, Fiend" Samael called quietly to the creature, who waddled to his side and whined. Lilley-May led Samael, not to his chambers, but outside to the meadow. They sat in the field of colourful, fragrant flowers, basking in the sun as a gentle breeze blew in their faces.
"Don't be sad, Sam-sam" Lilley-May chirped, placing a crown of flowers on his soft silver hair. "Fiend doesn't like seeing you sad"
As if on cue, Fiend whined and nuzzled Samael's side. Samael's gaze was fixed firmly on something far in the distance but he snaked an arm around the cub and began stroking it.
The three of them sat in a comfortable silence for a while before Samael finally found his voice.
"W-why me?" His voice was unsteady, and salty tears emerged in the corners of his eyes.
"Why him?" Lord Seraph asked no-one in particular. Pain was evident in his voice. He got out a small flask, filled with whiskey and took a large gulp. "He doesn't deserve this"
"Seraph, you should've battled the Dark Lord years ago when you had the chance" Duchess Lunipha, his cousin, sighed. "Maybe none of this would've never happened if you did"
"INSTEAD THERE WOULD BE A WHOLE BLOODY WAR GOING ON!" Seraph bellowed, much to everyone's surprise.
"C-calm down, milord" Suzie took the flask of whiskey out of Seraph's hand. "We just have to keep an extra eye on the boy and make sure Lucifer doesn't lay a finger on him"
"Easier said than done" Lord Jasavra spoke up. "Do any of you know how powerful that demon really is?" Silence. "Thought not"
"Okay, so the beast is untouchable" Duchess Lunipha began. "But let's just say he somehow did find a way into the Realm, what to we do then?"
"Yes, how exactly should we react?" Another Lord spoke up.
"Which ever way we look at it, the only answer is war"
"Or we hand over the boy" Suzie smirked. "That way we'd all be safe and there would be no war"
"SHUT UP! ALL OF YOU!" Lord Seraph's voice boomed in the Throne Room and echoed down the halls. "You don't see it, do you? Samael's parents were Secret Keepers. What do you think happened to them?"
"I heard one of them committed suicide, but I don't know about the other" said Lord Jasavra.
"On that letter, didn't it say that Samael was the Seventh Son on Lucifer?" Duchess Lunipha pointed out.
"Does that mean...?"
"Surely not..."
The Throne Room filled with mutterings of shock and horror.
"I'm afraid that may be so" The Lord Seraph sighed. "Lucifer got enslaved in evil. He was trapped in a world of his own, battling his own imaginary demons until he was on the verge of insanity. Then, evil whispered in his ear. He began to slaughter people, and he felt a remedy; Power. He became a man thirsty for power, his mind was controlled by evil. His reality became distorted, he attacked those superior to him and soon enough he became High King of Mogul. The people feared for their lives and sent his Seventh Son here, to the Realm, out of Lucifer's reach, hoping when the time came he would be a more merciful King... Except Samael isn't safe here anymore."
"We're all doomed!" Some maids cried out dramatically.
"Keep your damn wigs on!" Lord Jasavra snapped. "Do not fret, I shall gather only the most elite in preparation for war. We must do our best to keep the boy safe."
"I DON'T WANT A DAMN BLOODY WAR!" Lord Seraph roared.
"But have we got any other option?"
Lord Seraph thought for a moment and stood up, cracking his back. "I'll get the boy. Let's just finish the bloody birthday party before we're all sent to our peril"
