What do you say when you have nothing left to say?

Do you smile or nod, hopefully transferring your thoughts and emotions through it?

Do you shake your head and try to say the kind thing?

Or do you leave?

When you want to find a reason to stay, do you prolong the conversation, prolong the inevitable goodbye?

Does it seem clingy to want to stay when there's every reason to leave? Out of fear do I stay where I'm at, afraid of the unknown, despite the pressing circumstances surrounding me begging for change?

It's likely most people know the trite saying "Anything can happen in a New York minute". But only native New Yorkers know that isn't true.

Things that can't happen in a New York minute include:

- The arrival of the G train.

- Getting a cab out of JFK.

- Moving to the front of the line at Shake Shack.

- Time Warner answering your call.

- Time Warner fixing your cable box.

- Time Warner doing anything.

Our cable hasn't been working for weeks, and what has Time Warner done to help us? Right. Absolutely nothing. Shame on you, Time Warner.

"Maybe we should just get a new TV and find a new provider that actually responds to your calls. Our set's getting real old, real fast, anyway," Matt advises, yawning. It's late, and I've been sitting on the ground for hours in front of the TV, instruction booklet in hand, remote in the other.
