I'm not your Toy - La Roux

Hi. this is my first story so be kind...? I hope you like! I have no idea about American culture other than television and stuff so sorry if it's completely wrong! Oh, and I used most of the names from my favourite actors and characters and stuff if you recognized them :)

Clouds had gathered before the early morning sun had even had time to show. Rain started to come down in small droplets and started to coat the pavement outside.

Daneel sighed and wished today was Saturday so she wouldn't have to go to school. It wasn't that she didn't like school, it was just the people that went there that she didn't like so much. Just like any other school there were 'cliques' or groups, most where just the people you had made friends with in your junior year.

Having social anxiety and what not, it was harder for Daneel to make friends. It annoyed Daneel to no end that when she was trying to talk to someone new, her face would heat up and she would start to stutter like she had never spoken a word in her life before. Some people where kind, but most just lost patience with her after a while of awkward, one-sided conversations.

The thought of this being her second to last term in her last year at this school pleased Daneel. She had already been offered a scholarship into a university and it wasn't like her parents where poor, just never around. She had been saving up some money for a while now anyway.

As the school gates approached, Daneel felt more and more nervous with each stride. What if they made fun of her again this year? What if her grades slipped and they took back the scholarship? What if her parents had to leave again? What if they dragged her along with them this time?

Questions kept coming into her head and she couldn't seem to get rid of them. All these what ifs crammed themselves into her brain and Daneel had to it down for awhile before she could clear her head.

Laytin College was a big school, filled with many, many people. People of all different personalities, kind, loud, rude, mean, smart and athletic. Most of them had groups and what not, people they had met in their first year at the school and stuck with for the rest of their time at the college. There where few people there who did not have a group of friends, Daneel being one. They where the ones that would sit alone outside or at a spare table inside the cafeteria. Every school had it's loners, populars, smarts, riches and athletes, it was fact and that's just what makes a school run.

Daneel walked through the doors and down the long hallways to the office. Daneel looked on at the receptionist and tried to get her attention with a gentle clear of her throat. The woman looked up, her eyes narrowed at being disturbed, but they softened when she saw who it was. She had often seen Daneel in the sick bay after a panic attack or sitting alone outside and had tried to strike up conversation to keep the young girl from boredom or loneliness.

"Can I help you, my dear?" Lynne Rider, the receptionist, asked while momentarily pausing her typing on the computer.

"Y-yes. Um, can I h-have the art competition f-form please?" Daneel asked, trying not to stutter, she knew this woman after all, it wasn't like she was a stranger.

"Of course dear! One moment, I will just find it." a few clicks on the computer and soft humming and then "Ah, here it is! " she smiled kindly and handed the light pink paper to Daneel.

"Thank you Miss Rider." Daneel said backing away from the office.

"You are most welcome!" then she went back to the computer, typing away.

Daneel made her way to the second floor and walked along to her locker number. The dull green metal wasn't  particularly aesthetically pleasing to look at but the rest of the school made up for it. 3 large buildings, a gym, a field and a library was the grounds that made up Laytin College. A science block and maths named Tower Block or just Tower, an arts and textiles block named River Block or just River, and the English and languages block named Brook Block or just Brook. The English and science blocks both linked together with bridges you could walk over, each of those buildings had 4 floors whereas the arts block only had 2.
