It was a chilly night. A breeze passed by Tom, hitting him from behind. He shivered; he'd been walking around the town almost the whole day, having nothing better to do.
He had his hood up, trying to keep warm. He lifted his head, and, indeed, it was evening already. The sun had almost completely set, leaving only a few stretches of select vibrant oranges to color the bottom of the sky, while the majority of it was overtaken by blues of every shade.
And, with the night, came cool temperatures.
Tom sighed, just barely seeing his own breath puff out before him. His hand fidgeted with the other in his hoodie pocket, and a song was playing in his head. He decided maybe he'd go and eat, but he was a bit short on money from lunch, due to the fact that he hadn't expected to be out past one p.m.
While walking, he came across a bar. It looked new. Tom could say he never previously noticed it. The building's finish looked relatively new as well. He made his way up the stairs to the door, and read on a sign that it was a bar that supported and encouraged LGBT+.
That's cool, I guess, he thought to himself. Tom opened the door, deciding to give it a try. He stepped inside, and there was a small corridor with blue walls, that was lit up by blacklight. He shut the door behind himself, and approached a security guard by the actual entrance to the bar. He put down his hood on the way down.
"I need ID," the security guard told Tom once he got close enough. Tom pulled out his wallet, and took his license out of a slot inside it. After presenting his ID, he slipped it back in his wallet as the guard opened the door for him.
The room was lit by multiple blacklights and some neon lights, that lit up various hues of blue and purple. The main bar was in the center, and it was oval shaped, with a wall of shelves holding all sorts of alcohol bottles separated one side from the other. There was a lot of lounge space, as well as a performance stage that had a small band playing at the time.
Tom had a seat at an empty table, and he pulled his phone out. He sighed; the mood that the bar presented was not one that linked with his. It was rowdy and noisy, and the band was hardly audible over it all. It wasn't as packed as it could be, yet it sounded like it was. He wouldn't be surprised if the bartenders were excellent lip readers with earplugs in. At the time, he wished he was as well.
He decided he might drink, waste the night away. The day hadn't been eventful, so he figured there was no need to remember the night. He just wanted someone by his side. Tom locked his phone, and he slipped it back into his pocket. He glanced at the bar for a brief moment, but he looked back. Two figures had caught his eye.
One was a tall boy, wearing a muscle shirt. He was grinning- smirking, even - and his hair was blonde and messy. Beside him, was a shorter boy, wearing a red, unzipped jacket. He had hair that wasn't quite ginger, but it wasn't quite brown either. Somewhere in between. His hair was done up into two horn-like spikes, and his expression did not match that of the blonde boy's. Tom got suspicious. He watched them.
The blonde boy kept putting his hand on the shoulder of the one beside him, who repeatedly had to keep shruging it off. He looked uncomfortable; he was frowning whilst showing some teeth, and his eyebrows weren't relaxed. The blonde one paid no mind to how he was reacting, and he ran a hand down the side of his face before waking away. After he did, the other boy buried his face in his hands. Tom stood up. He told himself he couldn't stand by and just watch this.
He walked around the bar, weaving his way past a couple groups of people, and he approached the boy who was left waiting.
"Hey," he put a hand on his shoulder as he spoke. The boy with the horned hair turned around in his seat, raising an eyebrow. He was taken by a bit of surprise when he saw two black eyes staring at him.
