WATCH THE SKIES
WAIT FOR WHEN THE FEARFUL JAY FLIES
Troy sat in his armchair, turning the TV on with the remote. His wife and child were napping in their room, so Troy had the opportunity to watch whatever he wanted to. He was about to change the channel to one of his favourite science shows when the news began its first story of the night. After a brief opening they began the terrifying and mildly gruesome story.
"...Popular YouTuber Sean William McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, dropped off of the face of the Earth yesterday. He has been completely inactive on all social media since last Tuesday which prompted his girlfriend who had been visiting her parents to return to his house early to find a terrifying scene..." Troy listened intently to the woman speaking on the news broadcast.
"She discovered that the place had been completely trashed and abandoned. There was garbage everywhere and there was an awful stench coming from the washroom. I would like to give this next bit to Jake who is currently on the scene."
Troy felt like he almost recognized the situation, but he didn't know. The only experience he had with people going to someone's home to find it trashed was with Marble Hornets and he did not think it was from there, because he felt as though it were from within him.
"Thank you Charlotte. So as you can see I am on the scene of Sean's disappearance. So right from the start you can see that there was some sort of animal in here judging by the deep and wide claw marks on the wall, but as we go from room to room we can see that there was only a struggle in a couple of them. Now we are coming to the washroom, the place that police officers are investigating thoroughly due to the fact that they found copious amounts of blood in the sink. Alongside this blood they found a body of a currently unidentified man, due to the wounds on his face that make him unrecognizable." Troy saw the camera pan around the room, and something seemingly insignificant stuck out to him like a sore thumb. There was an Operator symbol on the wall. Enraptured, he allowed himself to finish the news story.
"The final clue that investigators have found is an unknown highly acidic substance that has properties similar to that of a fictional acid that glows green. It melts through virtually anything and was found prominently in the man's wounds. This same acid, unofficially entitled 'Septiceye Acid' due to the fact that it was found in Jacksepticeye's house, was found in copious amounts in an abandoned hospital or school in the woods of Alabama by an urban explorer." Troy watched the camera pan around the same hospital they filmed Marble Hornets in, then he stood up rapidly, writing a quick note and grabbing his phone and keys from their hook on the wall. He dashed out the front door and unlocked his car, almost literally jumping into the driver's seat. Pulling out of the driveway, Troy focused his wide set eyes on the road in front of him and began to drive. He was going to the abandoned hospital, due to him not moving far away from the location. He drove for about fifteen minutes then parked his car in a run down parking lot by a huge forest. He ran down a dirt road towards the hospital where a swarm of police cars sat in front of the three story abandoned building. He bumped into a police officer and urgently asked if he could take a look in the building. The police officer shrugged and sid they had nothing left to do in the place and let the man wearing a worn tan sweater through. He sprinted down a familiar maze of hallways and came to a room he knew very well. It still had the words that he, Joseph and Tim had written years ago. He faced the words then turned around to face a fresh mark on the wall, written in acid. A circle with an X through it. He snapped a photo with his camera and tweeted it, instantly getting likes on the photo accompanied by only a few terrified words.
"I may be overthinking things but this cannot be fake. I'm scared hahaaa"
Troy retraced his steps. The sun was setting, the world was finally starting to cool down after a horrifyingly eventful day. Troy walked by the trees, illuminating his path with his phone's flashlight. Though everything should have been normal something felt incredibly off. Troy bit his lip and tried to shake off the sense of unease that was currently following him as he walked alongside a set of old train tracks as the light faded smoothly to darkness. During the short walk back to his car he thought he saw the operator standing in the woods, watching his every move or a set of glowing purple eyes just beyond the reach of his flashlight. He brushed it off and called it paranoia, and just kept walking.
When Troy arrived at his car he unlocked it as quickly as possible and climbed into the front seat but not before checking the trunk and back seats of his car to make sure nobody was in his vehicle. He started the engine and began the drive back home, the silence surrounding him as he peacefully watched the road ahead of him, checking the rearview mirror occasionally to make sure there were no drunk drivers about to run into him.
Suddenly he hit the brakes, slamming his foot as hard as he could on the pedal. His car screeched to a stop as he tried desperately not to hit the man standing in the middle of the street. The black hoodie he wore seemed a bit too short and Troy could see some of the skin on his lower back, much to his disgust. The man turned around, and a pair of glowing purple eyes stared at Troy for just a second before turning away. The man ran impossibly fast into the woods and Troy began driving again, his heart pounding out of his chest.
His headlights reflected off of the side of his home until he turned his car off and exited. The car clicked as Troy locked it and walked to his front door. His hands shook as he opened the main entrance to his home. The door squeaked slightly as it swung inwards. Everything was silent and Troy could distinctly hear each shaky and uncertain breath that entered and exited his lungs. His T.V was on, illuminating the dark room. Static took the screen. Nervously, Troy walked towards the tv. Perched precariously upon the wall mounted screen was a tape titled "open". Where Troy's cable box normally was a tape player rested in its place, taunting him. Troy removed the tape from its carefully placed location and entered it into the tape player, hitting play and watching the screen nervously.
The video that played instantly reminded Troy of the videos that he had to edit for five years, the ones that totheark uploaded. The dialogue was clearly talking to him directly, but Troy couldn't remember any of it. The thing that he could remember watching the footage of him running through the abandoned hospital. That had been less than an hour ago.
That wasn't the only thing he could remember, though. The last title card said a couple of words that he definitely took to heart.
